Teams will be given 9 hours to build a mobile application conforming to a provided theme and using the Foursquare API. Teams can use a mix of programming languages and tools. The app must be built during the competition time period and cannot reuse an existing app. Teams will have 3 minutes to demo their app and 2 minutes for Q&A. Apps will be judged on software quality, UX/UI, innovation, and pitch quality. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams, including cash and software development credits and licenses.

This document discusses how GoRated.PH used the Foursquare API to populate their database with venues and places. They needed a way to quickly populate their database with limited resources. They tried using the Google Places and OpenStreetMap APIs but found Foursquare had more registered places, a more extensive and powerful API, and provided dynamic data from user check-ins that could help users discover the best places. They chose to use the Foursquare API because it met their needs and they could integrate it into their existing PHP codebase.

He followed several steps to develop the app, including coming up with an idea based on personal experiences, establishing a brand, creating a minimum viable product, scheduling development in a realistic way, focusing on getting features completed, and planning for improvements in separate code branches. Taghuddle is a site that aggregates updates from different social networks.
The document discusses how to avoid products becoming messy over time. It suggests focusing on specifications, writing solid code, code reviews, testing, deploying frequently, and collecting relevant metrics.
