1. Interview with Jeff Ervine
Jeff Ervine is a Financial Executive with more than ten years of experience across a wide array
of companies.
Q: Can you describe the day-to-day responsibilities of your current position?
JE: As the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of SES Partners Management,
LLC, I start each day by carefully analyzing all trader portfolios, examining positions using a
variety of economic methodologies. In addition to these duties, I directly supervise marketing
operations, client relations, and asset-raising efforts.
Q: Before joining SES Partners Management, LLC, what other types of positions did you hold
within the financial sector?
JE: During my time as a Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Salon Asset
Management, I oversaw all investment aspects of the multi-strategy hedge fund. My
responsibilities included the management of the fund, creating portfolios, allocating investment
capital, and reviewing the fund’s performance. In this capacity, I also invested assets worth $20
million in a number of strategies, such as private equity and asset-based lending (ABL).
Before joining Salon Asset Management, I worked as the Chief Financial Officer of Blue Select,
LLC in New York City. In this role, I supervised a staff of two and managed $100 million in
assets. In addition to evaluating the fund on a monthly basis, I oversaw due diligence reviews on
managers and third-party marketing agreements.
Q: Can you talk a little about the education you received before entering the professional world?
JE: I received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University in 1989,
where I graduated with Dean’s List honors. In 1997, I earned a Master of Business
Administration from Columbia Business School. After graduating from Columbia, I accepted an
offer to become a Senior Associate with the Investment Banking Financial Institutions Group at
Bear Stearns & Company, Inc.
