About The Internship
The Environmental Programs Internship is an unpaid volunteer internship that can be used for coll ege credit or to meet
volunteerism requirements. Internships are offered each semester. Interns will work 10 – 15 hours per week and work
schedules are generally flexible with the student’s schedule. Start and end dates are negotiated with each selected
intern.

Example of Duties:
Duties: Conduct business, school and athletic event recycling. Follow-up and assist with special event
recycling bin sponsorship program. Assist with promoting, scheduling and conducting recycling outreach
programs including the use of social media, and special projects. Other duties may include assisting the
Sponsorship Coordinator, gathering data and compiling reports, developing displays and promotional
materials, and covering evening and weekend events
Basic knowledge of the principles of green building and waste management, reduction and recycling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong written, analytical and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of software products used in an office environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
SharePoint, and Outlook.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Enrolled full time in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited university; 3.0 or higher GPA is
preferred a minimum of 2.0 GPA is required.
2. Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications: College coursework or a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, education, public
administration, communications, business or a closely related field. Good organizational skills, word
processor and spreadsheet proficiency, facility with the web, ability to conduct assessments, understanding
of solid waste management principles, and strong communication skills desired.
Who May Apply: This position is open to full time students who are currently in an undergraduate or
graduate degree program.
Internship Length: To start, one internship position will begin immediately. A second position if
necessary may begin as early as January of 2014. Duration is for one year which may be renewed for up
to two (2) years. Candidates must be enrolled as full-time students.
Work Schedule: Interns work up to 15 to 20 hours/week during the school year and 35 to 40-hours/week
during the summer. The working hours are within 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Some
weekends may be required as needed.
