1. International Rescue Team
12 members of the International Rescue Team had spent two days kicking
their heels in Tokyo airport. They claimed they were unable to get to work
because the British Embassy could not help them secure crucial papers.
The team arrived at Heathrow airport hitting the roof over the red tape. An
exhausted Ray Gray, 55-year-old leader of the team, said, “All we needed was a
bit of paper’. He added, “We don’t want to seem to be blowing our own
trumpet, but we are good at what we do and have had more than 30 years
experience doing it”. Gray, who is used to calling a spade a spade, said: “Let’s
stop beating around the bush. The Japanese government had asked us to come
but it’s the British Embassy who did not sign the paperwork.”
