Interlanguage theory describes the language system learners construct as they learn a new language. It is a structured system governed by rules that constitute the learner's internal grammar. This system is dynamic and variable, as the rules change frequently depending on context. When learning a new language, learners transfer rules from their first language and overgeneralize rules from the new language. They also develop strategies for learning, communicating in, and transferring training to the new language.
