BAHADUR SHASTRIToday we see “the Integrity” as just a word, but the word has very
deep meaning and we cannot understand the whole meaning just like
that.
The term “integrity” is used as a target or object word for corporate
entities even there is the certain organization it’s the Vision &
Mission Statement and it’s the promising word to the customers,
stakeholders, employees and whomever part of the organization.

4. WHO WAS LAL BAHADUR
SHASTRI?
Lal Bahadur Shastri Early Days
Born on October 2, 1904, Shastri was born in Mughalsarai
at a railway station in Varanasi. When he was a student, he
was not able to buy the school books and every day used to
under the Street Lights. At his Early age, he lost his father.
When Shastri was studying in Kashi Vidyapeeth, he got to
know that, he lost his mother. Though he was not having
enough money to go by boat, so he had swum on the Ganges
river and reached home.

5. Married Life
Lal Bahadur Shastri married Lalita Devi, the youngest
daughter of Ganesh Prasad. Shastri was wearing only the
khadi dress since being part of the national liberation
struggle. On the wedding day, the priest said to his wife seven
words of advice. As advice Groom Shastri said I also want to
give you one more an advice. From today, you have to wear
only the Khadi dress”. This is my eighth advice. At first day
night, his wife had not worn the Khadi Dress so Shastri sent
her out from the room. After Shastri’s sister gave her a Khadi
Dress, she wore it and entered the room again.

6. Political Life:
At a young age, he was inspired by the stories and speeches of
national leaders,
developed a desire to participate in the Indian Nationalist
Movement. A speech of Mahatma Gandhi changed the course
of his life and decided to actively participate in India’s freedom
struggle.
At his Yong Age, Shastri went to jail seven times. On August
15, 1947, he became the Minister of Police and Transport.
Impressed by his acts Jawahar Lal Nehru Invited Shastri to
joint union cabinet as Railway Minister in 1952.
But then in 1956 he resigned from the post because of the
tragedy rail accident in Ariyalur, Tamilnadu which he took the
moral responsibility for the causes of the accident and
resigned the post and took over the people’s mind.

7. LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI
BIOGRAPHY
Nehru decided to send Shastri to find the situation
in Kashmir once the riots broke out in Kashmir. At
that time he did not have a woolen coat (jacket)
because that requested Nehru to send someone else
to Srinagar. Nehru lent his woolen coat to Shastri.
It was touched his knuckles because he is being
short. By the advice of a friend, he brought the
tailor and altered the jacket he was wearing the
same jacket when he was the prime minister.

8. Ordinary man:
When he was prime minister, Ramaswaroop a Dalit
(the person who brought up by Sastry), who bought
quality rice for the Prime Minister’s house.
Shastri saw the rice and said, “Ramaswaroop do not
buy the rice like this for an Ordinary man, return it
back and buy the ordinary people’s rice.
“Can we see the Prime Minister of India as a symbol of
such an ordinary man?

9. Shastri used to make his children live very simple. He did
not want his children to get any special concessions
through his prime ministerial position. His son Anil
Shastri applied for admission at Stephen College, Delhi
University.
After getting the call letter, Anil stood on a long line to
pay the college/admission fee. He stood down a few hours
and fainted and fell down due to waiting in the long
queue. The professors who saw the situation immediately
took him to the college hospital for the first aid and asked
his address.
“My father Lal Bahadur Shastri, my address – Number 1,
Motilal Nehru Mark” This led all were all in the surprise.

10. Hari Krishna Shastri was educated in Automobile
Engineering in London. After completion of the study,
he returned to India and received a letter of
appointment from one of the famous industrial
establishments. Hari was very happy and went to the
Father and showed the letter.
Shastri, who saw this and said to a son this
appointment is not for you; The letter of appointment
given to the son of the prime minister and my opinion
is that you should not accept it. At the Moment Hari
Krishnan Shastri tore the letter of the appointment.

11. CAN ANYONE BE LIKE
SHASTRI TODAY?
The man who walked in the way of Mahatma was the
“gem of the law”.
The superior man who always used himself as one of the
millions of people and always dislike the concessions
offered by the office.
Shastri bought a small Fiat car on installment for his
family use while being prime minister. After the sudden
death of Shastri, his family could not pay a monthly
installment and returned the car to the loan company.
This led us to realize that Lal Bahadur Shastri lived all his
life with simplicity, Truth, and Virtue. And this made us
understand the clear meaning of Integrity.
