This document summarizes an Innovation Clinic event focused on maximizing value from waste in fruit and vegetable supply chains. The event included presentations on opportunities to create high-value extracts and organic energy from waste, as well as a business panel discussing challenges. Attendees then worked in groups to identify major opportunities and how to unlock economic potential through increased collaboration across industry stakeholders. The goal was to solve this complex issue by applying open innovation principles and facilitating new partnerships along the value chain.

• Within two weeks Recycling Design and Technologies (RDT)
collaborated with Burdekin Shire Council and Canegrowers
Burdekin to develop and advertise a temporary drop-off location
for plastic fluming at the Home Hill waste transfer station.
Renewable Energy Innovation Clinic
• Regional Development Australia partnered with Gulf Savannah
Development to produce a local supplier directory of energy
efficiency and renewable energy specialists in the Far North
Queensland regional and remote community.

Queensland Pineapple Industry
• Industry collaboration to develop a Queensland-based fresh cut
market for pineapples.
• In the last five years Tropical Pines increased it’s supply to fresh
cut producers from 2% to 20%.
