BY INJECTING ETHICS INTO THEIR CONCEPTS, DESIGNERS OF TODAY ARE ABLE TO
CHANGE THE WORLD OF TOMORROW AND THE WORLD OF THE NEXT GENERATION.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THAT NEXT GENERATION? WHAT ARE THEIR NEEDS AND VALUES ABOUT
ETHICS? IN THE IDEAL ETHICAL WORLD OF ‘THE OLD GENERATIONS’ THERE’S NO PLACE
FOR POP, YOUTH CULTURE OR FOR BIG BRANDS OR OTHER APPEALING LIFESTYLE STUFF
THAT MAKES BEING YOUNG SO NICE!

FORECASTERS IRENE WESTERBEEK AND MONA DEKKER JOINED FORCES TO REALIZE A
TRENDPROJECT FOR THE STUDENTS OF THE WILLEM DE KOONING ACADEMIE IN
ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS.

DURING THE BI-ANNUAL PROJECT-WEEK THE STUDENTS WERE CHALLENGED TO DEVELOP
A TRENDCONCEPT WHICH CONTAINED A VISION ON ETHICS. IN SEPARATED GROUPS, THE
STUDENTS FIGURED OUT WHICH ETHICAL TRENDS THEY THOUGHT WERE GOING TO BE
IMPORTANT IN THE FUTURE FOR THEM AS DESIGNERS.
