Editor's Notes

  • #3 Don’t be too detailed, just tell people about break times, and general flow of the presentation
  • #5 A couple of individuals who are key to our MBA program are Kim Bates and Dale Carl. Kim is the Director of our MBA programs and teaches courses in the programs and Dale is Director of Grad students and a key member of the MBA team. I don’t have enough information, but I remember Kim has many publications, and Dale was a diplomat. These information will humanize the two directors more than just giving the audience Kim and Dale’s titles.
  • #6 Peter: Not sure how we make this more dynamic, similar to the TRSM website: http://www.ryerson.ca/tedrogersschool/index.html A couple of individuals who are key to our MBA program are Kim Bates and Dale Carl. Kim is the Director of our MBA programs and teaches courses in the programs and Dale is Director of Grad students and a key member of the MBA team.
  • #7  So to give you an overview of our programs, we have two MBA programs, our Global program, which provides an inclusive business education covering topics such as: Our MBA in Management of Technology and Innovation or MBA-MTI is our other MBA program that is becoming quite popular. Students of the MBA-MTI program graduate with the skills needed to manage within companies that are focused on technology and innovation. While some of the core courses of the MBA-MTI program are the same as the global program, MTI students also study: There are full time and part tip options for both of these programs. I shortened the key points because I feel that they don’t really tell people about the focus of the two programs. Also these points are easier to understand compare to “Inclusive business management education”. AACSB should be moved to next slide where you can talk about associated courses, and the accreditation (so to validate the program, also more importantly, the curriculum)
  • #8 Some of the courses you provided there is an overlap. I removed those overlap here. If you’re in the Global MBA program you can take electives from the MTI program and vice versa. Most importantly, Ryerson’s MBA is AACSB accredited. The AACSB provides internationally recognized, specialized accreditation for business and accounting programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level. AACSB accreditation ensures that a school is teaching students what employers need, including the latest ideas in business, theories and practical skills. The Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) became accredited in 2011, and is proud of this achievement, as it represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Less than 5% of the world’s 13,000 business programs have earned AACSB accreditation; the Ted Rogers School of Management is one of only eight business programs in Ontario that is accredited.
  • #9  The great thing about our MBA program is the flexibility. You can choose to do a specialization or not. These specializations will give you the fundamentals and hands-on experience required to get into perspective industry. I feel like the specialization has to tie in with job prospect, instead of just a title.
  • #10 In terms of career path, these are some of the tentative positions out there that are directly related to the specialization you may want to take. Ryerson provide you with this large array of learning opportunities, and it is up to you to make the decision and build the career path you want. * Maybe read some of the titles, and what the job entails. E.g. “After having selected your destined career path. You can join the ‘black-tie’, ‘white-shirt’ realm of IBM as a business analyst, or the luxurious, teutonic show-room of BMW as a marketing analyst. The limit is only your hard-work and imagination.”
  • #11 Have a bridging point: e.g. here are the award winning professors that will teach some of these courses. These are profs on the “fame” side, there will be a slide with other professors with industry experience. We have outstanding faculty members on our team. Wendy Cukier, Chris MacDonald and Catherine Middleton are some examples of our award winning faculty. Students benefit from having faculty members in the classroom, who bring their extensive knowledge from research and actual experience to enhance curriculum and learning. The student experience is further enhanced through our work with Distinguished Visitors and people in the business world. 90% of faculty members have 10 years minimum industry experience
  • #12  We have outstanding faculty members on our team. Wendy Cukier, Chris MacDonald and Catherine Middleton are some examples of our award winning faculty. The student experience is further enhanced through our work with Distinguished Visitors and people in the business world. 90% of faculty members have 10 years minimum industry experience
  • #14 Profs with industry experience: Prof Ron Babin: Accenture senior partner Ken Grant: KPMG senior partner Ida Berger: McLaren Advertising
  • #15 The Integrative Semester is completed in a student’s last term, for both part-time and full-time students. During this term, students use the foundations they have built in previous terms to demonstrate what they have learned through practical application. Depending on their career goals, students write a Major Research Paper (MRP) and apply their knowledge in a work placement (internship or current place of employment), international exchange, language training (i.e. study abroad). Major Research Paper: Students work with our faculty and/or Career and Employer Partnerships team to find a suitable internship, or they may opt to find their own. The four-month internship experience enables students to demonstrate the technical and interpersonal skills they have acquired in the MBA program and explore their own specialized interests. We have a 100% internship placement rate, and over half of our internships result in full-time job offers which students can transition to easily from this final semester. Talking points: simulate real business environment by working in a group on case studies (Leadership, task management, interpersonal relationship), integrative term (extension of case studies but with judges from industry instead of professors), Internship (get your hands dirty), International exchange (chance in a life time). Practice business skills: MRP, business plan (scientific management, ability to stay informed, start up your own business); internal external competitions (stake is high, have to analyze, present, and represent at the same time) Expand perspectives: frequent guest speakers (e.g. IT gods: facebook, IBM, political figures: Paul Martin, financial “mongrels”: Scotia bank CEO, finance minister). Seminars (Ron Babin/Diane Francis lead IT seminars, Jim Patterson Ethical Leadership Program)
  • #16 Focus on one story, and let people search or ask for other accomplishment after. Sell Kate French and Alex Dias story of winning cars, etc. Make sure to give some preamble instead of just showing the pictures. Say something along the line of “ugly duckling” story, then lead to how Ryerson make swan out of ducklings. Then link the story
  • #17 Focus on one story, and let people search or ask for other accomplishment after. Sell Kate French and Alex Dias story of winning cars. (idol creation)
  • #18 Focus on one story, and let people search or ask for other accomplishment after. Sell Kate French and Alex Dias story of winning cars. (idol creation)
  • #19 Focus on one story, and let people search or ask for other accomplishment after. Sell Kate French and Alex Dias story of winning cars. (idol creation)
  • #20  1st in Fundraising for the children's cancer charity, POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario). The team raised over $28,000 out of the $50,000 raised by all of the teams combined. Try not to go over too long in this section, the previous story should set the mood. People will tend to gloss over this page. IF you can do throw in $ values if we won any. Focus on image, saying this is what a team at Ryerson is like, and you can become just like them, etc. (or here are the teams that make all these happen, and you can be part of it)
  • #21 I think people will only care about three things when deciding to come to Ryerson or not: Job, Reputation, Fun. We already established reputation with Kate’s story, I think its time to put some fun in our program.
  • #22 Throwing bit more fun there.
  • #23 Approximately 60% of the class is male and 40% female Students come from a variety of industries including On average, incoming students have 5 years of work experience. Our part time students usually have more. Being able to share experiences with classmates also provides great learning. When I was going through the program I thought it was great when I learned something and I could take it back and apply it in the workplace. We already showed pictures of groups in last two slides, so here is best to talk about the numbers
  • #24 Some of these points, such as case competition discussed in previous slides. We have a number of activities and support areas available to you while you’re in the program Career Centre available for one-on-one meetings, set up networking events and liaise with employers to create exposure for the program and you as a candidate Dare to Lead is an opportunity to network with business leaders and learn about real-life situations and how they handled them. Lumina Sparks is a professional development tool that supports individuals, teams and organisations to work more effectively and improve the bottom line. It is unique amongst psychometric tools because it avoids any stereotyping. It provides a highly interactive colourful framework for better self-understanding and helps people identify how to improve their working relationships with others. Workshops: Excel, accounting, finance, writing, Case competitions are a great way to hone your analytical skills, network We have a number of speaker series throughout the year. Guest speakers have included political figures, business leaders, community and not-for-profit leaders. The speakers series are a great way to gain understanding on different topics and networked with experts in their field. Bloomberg terminals allow to research companies and gain access to information for The MBA Student Association organizes a number of social events throughout the year. As well, students organize informal events which provide wonderful networking opportunities. We have study cubicles available to full time students as a quiet place to go and work. Other facilities include our gym.
  • #25 Changes made on the graphics, and some estimation of travel time given. The travel time is non-scientific, but I feel that these numbers are reasonable and gives people some reference.
  • #26 Graduation ceremony, kind of walk them through the whole process.
  • #27 Add information about salary increase after graduation.
  • #28 Integrative week – case competition during the week with a presentation and paper due at the end of the week Great experience in working with teams under a timeline This is already covered in previous slide Integrative term is for the full time students and includes a work term. Our Career Centre assists with internship placements and approximately 60% of students who completed internships were offered permanent roles. During the integrative term students also work on their Major Research Paper or MRP. The MRP allows students to dive into an area of interest and do analysis and make recommendations. A number of students have worked with employers to determine a topic for their MRP. A faculty member also works with the student during the MRP process.
  • #29  Application deadlines on our web site; part time deadline for a January start date is November 7th; March 6th is deadline for PT and FT without a business degree to start in May; June 5th deadline for PT and FT with a business degree
  • #30 Save details of financing options to this to Q&A
  • #31 Pretty self explanatory. If you have any question on this calculation please let me know. Also please sell hard during this phase, as Ryerson used to always talk about higher ROI but never gave a number. ROI of 6.71 is for domestic 4.23 is for international. For every dollar student is putting into Ryerson MBA, they are getting 6.71 dollars in return (or 671% ), compared with going to other school.
  • #32 Show the faces first, then moving to how you can help them.
  • #33  Our recruitment advisors (Teguh and Rea) can answer questions about your application and provide information on submitting a strong application We have a number of recruitment events including our Information Sessions, Connect 1-2-1, MBA Week where you can attend a class, networking events, speaker events, free GMAT verbal and math refreshers as you student for your GMAT as well as free GMAT practice exams. Our events are listed on our web site so make sure you check them out and sign up. Help get ready for program with workshops: Excel Accounting refresher Writing workshops Try not to delve too much on this slide, and spend more time to answer people’s question in the Q&A and after the presentation
  • #34 Placeholder to remind viewers of the positive points
  • #35 Have this slide up only during the after presentation question period.
