Sarojini Chattopadhyay was born in 1879 in Hyderabad, India. She came from a large family where all the children were taught English at an early age. At age 12, she passed the Matriculation exam of the Madras University, which made her famous throughout India. Before she turned 15, her great struggle began as she fell in love with Dr. Govindurajulu Naidu, who was from an old and honorable family but not from the Brahmin caste.
