Ice cold Knights fall to Massasoit 80-64
11.28.12
The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to
Brockton, MA to play the Warriors of Massasoit
Community College for the first Region XXI league
game. The Knights fell to the Warriors 80-64. With
the loss the Knights fall to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in
Region XXI and 0-1 in league play.
The Knights were just not in sync on this night and shot an abysmal 34% (24-70)
from the floor and 16% (4-25) from the 3-point arc. The chilly shooting form the
Knights was even chillier than the game time outside temperature of 36 degrees.
After a tough first half of shooting the Knights went in trailing 36-29. In the
second half the Knights did manage to tie the game 39-39 with 16 minutes
remaining in the game on a 3-pointer by freshman Jerome Harris (Hartford, CT).
The Knights did pull ahead 45-43 with 14 minutes remaining in the game but
with about eight minutes remaining in the game the Warriors hit three of their
four team 3-pointers in back-to back-to-back possessions to pull away and never
looked back from that point and went on to win by the final score of 80-64.
Leading the way for the Knights was Jerome Harris scoring a game-high 21 points including three 3-pointers with two
assists and a steal and Pat Marchand (Cranston, RI) scored 14 points with seven rebounds. Also contributing for the
Knights was Rob Hazard (North Providence, RI) with 10 points, three assists and three steals. In his return,
sophomore Desmond Williams (Torrington, CT) scored nine points with three rebounds while his backcourt mate
Bryan Yarce (Cranston, RI) dished out a game-high seven assists and swiped two steals. Massasoit had four players
score in double-figures led by Kwame Lee who scored 21 points.
Head Coach Rick Harris commented dafter the tough loss “Very inconsistent effort by our young men tonight.
Massasoit clearly was willing to work harder for this victory than we were. Our execution was unfocused as well and
those two negatives by us are a recipe for a loss. As I told the team, most important is that we not dwell on how we
played (loss) but instead, get rededicated to do the things we need to do to become the team we know we can
become. Hopefully this loss will serve as a wake-up call to both our coaches and players as we prepare for Dean
College next Thursday.”
It does not get any easier for the Knights as their next game will also be a Region XXI league game versus Region XXI
rival and no. 12 ranked 4-1 Bulldogs of Dean College. The game will be played Thursday December 6th at 8:00pm
following the Lady Knights who play Dean at 6:00pm at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight
