The document discusses the author's visit to the Institute of Contemporary Art and their observations of various artworks by Nicole Eisenman. The author noticed Eisenman's works explored themes of happiness, fear, and warmth. Specifically, the author was struck by the piece "Swimmers in the Lap Lane" which evoked warm feelings through its color and motion, and "Saggy" which used unusual materials and textures to depict memory formation in the brain. The works "Big Green Head" and surrounding paintings transported the author back to frightening childhood memories and influenced their shifting moods.

Introduction
For this assignment, I went to the museum with my professor. It was a wonderful experience especially since I have not been to a museum for a long time and she was already a member. The museum we chose to explore was The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Because she was a member, I only had to pay $10 for the entrance fee which was a nice discount. When we first walked in, I was overwhelmed because I was excited and anxious to see all the different works of art. The exhibits we saw were Modern Times, Art Splash and Face to Face.
Face to Face
As I start to think back, I did not take any pictures in the Face to Face exhibit. This exhibit had so many people, I couldn’t and would not dare take my phone out because I probably would have dropped and broken it. It’s interesting to have seen so many people since all that was in the room were the artist's self-portraits and brief descriptions. But that is what amazed me, seeing that people still appreciate others and what they’ve done is extremely motivating to me. In our World Cultures textbook, the majority of what was read was filled with cruelty and hate which still goes on today but seeing us as individuals overcome the hatred and honor those in our past is nothing less than a miracle I was able to witness in person. If I were thinking, I could have taken a photo of the exhibit to express the appreciation of today’s society looking back at yesterday’s heartaches and pain.
Art Splash
The second exhibit was called Art Splash. The museum stated that it was an “imaginative play for kids and their grown-ups” which was suitable due to the beautiful vibrant colors and even still-life paintings of light. The two pictures I chose were of Charles Sheeler and Joseph Stella. The Swan, which was created around 1924, was a painting that caught my attention as soon as I entered the room. The energy was warm, welcoming and fun as the colors made the Modern painting come alive. He gives people a sense of hope in the era of the Italian Renaissance which is what many of them needed. In Art Splash, I also admired the painting of Joseph Stella, The Cactus, because I enjoy seeing him show the reflection of the lights in this painting. What really catches my attention is how there are reflections, but it doesn’t show where the light is coming from. If you investigate the picture, the stand-up light isn’t plugged in! He’s really making you use your imagination to figure out where the light is coming from because it doesn’t show light coming from the lamp above the cactus either. These two artists are taking you to different places; Sheeler is taking you to a fairyland while Stella has you in a magician’s house. These two paintings are full of life, and I loved looking at them. (Philadelphia Art Museum, 2)
Modern Times
The exhibit Modern Times was my all-time favorite! I am far from being an artist but to see what people can pa.

Brushstrokes of Inspiration: Four Major Influences in Victor Gilbert’s Artist...KendraJohnson54
Throughout his career, Victor Gilbert was influenced heavily by various factors, the most notable being his upbringing and the artistic movements of his time. A rich tapestry of inspirations appears in Gilbert’s work, ranging from their own experiences to the art movements of that period.
Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.
1. Nicole Eisenman
Institute of contemporary art
During my trip to the ICA, many of the works were produced by
this artist name Nicole Eisenman. As I was observing her
artworks, I discovered three different main themes or styles of her
works that I was able to reflect to. Among all the artworks, there
were many of her works with happy and delighted moon. Some
were the opposite of happiness. I could see and sense that
frightened feelings that she intended her works to present. Lastly,
there were these warming feeling artworks that you knew would
always create memories because they make you wonder of your
role if you were to me on them.
2. Swimmers in the lap lane
This is one of her work that brings warmth to me because of the combination of the warm color tones and the energetic
motions . As I explored the work I tried to manipulate the connection of this work to a similar work style that I studied
but couldn’t exactly recalled for a while.
No one is isolated and that makes me think of how comfortable it would be to be with someone special which is
surrounded by others which can also be overwhelming.
3. Saggy
Again this one creates a good feeling because of the textures and color tones that helped produced happiness in a
tangible product. This work is something totally different from any works I ever seen. The materials that the
artist used which I think is a resemble of the brain’s lobe, can relates to memory because the power source of
memories come from the brain. And that was one of the reason this piece of work stuck onmy mind the most
After visiting the museum.
4. Mining I
Even though this isn’t what we exactly visualize when it comes to
warmth. Like we see in this environment, the conditions seem too rough
and might as well consider a blue period where saddest is the norm. I feel
like this work still supports joys and warmth in a way because there is a
sense of happiness that the people bring to the atmosphere.
5. Even though in this painting these people are in a tough situation, just by
looking at this painting doesn’t seems that way because again I think it is more
like the rose period. The colors overtaken all the negativities and wash them
away. To the viewers, it is like there aren't any problems in what’s going on into
the subject of the painting. The way that the artist painted this has an effect that
gives the people a positive response or thinking.
6. The triumph of poverty
This painting was easy to develop specific ideas relates to that experience because were already
near Halloween. I didn’t get any sense of poverty when looking at this, or maybe I was already
into the Halloween spirit since it was October. It almost seems like these people are on the
street going trick ore treating, and this painting fits them right.
7. Big green head
Seriously, when looking at this painting ,tell me you don’t get a spine chiller? The woman and the ocean can be
interpreted as one, lonely and scary night. I remember when I was a kid, my family pranked me by purposely
leaving me at the beach during the night fall, and I could remember of how scary, vicious the setting was.
Looking at this truly brings back the memories and I can almost feel that same feeling again.
8. And another creepy guy, in the same
creepy night setting with a full moon
allowing him to transform while
painting. I think works like this are
interesting because they can almost
make you change your moon without
being aware of that. I can relate myself
to that because I was literally focusing
enough into this work while I was
exploring it at the ICA . My emotion
swiped to a different mood , I felt
more somber and colder compared to
when I was watching the bright and
warming color paintings.
9. Hamlet
This pretty much sum every thing up, A guy with a sword holding a skull I think the artist really wanted the
viewers to feel the scary aggressiveness. No wonder I was getting mixed emotions. The darkness background is
horrifying enough to make that guy look fearful even when he doesn’t really seems like it.
