The Infection Control Department aims to be a leading center for infection prevention in Saudi Arabia. Its vision is to reduce infection rates to the lowest level possible and ensure a safe environment for patients and healthcare workers. The department implements infection control guidelines through surveillance, education and training, research, and quality improvement. Its responsibilities include minimizing hospital-acquired infections, maintaining a healthy environment, staff education and immunization, outbreak management, and coordinating with the Ministry of Health. The department follows standardized definitions to classify infections as community-acquired or healthcare-associated. It monitors for six major types of healthcare-associated infections.

Present or incubating at the time of
admission to hospital until 48-72 h.
Health Care - Associated (nosocomial)
An infection that is acquired after 48 to 72
hours of admission or within a defined period
after hospital discharge.
