The department implements infection control guidelines through surveillance, education and training, research, and quality improvement. Its responsibilities include minimizing hospital-acquired infections, maintaining a healthy environment, staff education and immunization, outbreak management, and coordinating with the Ministry of Health. The department follows standardized definitions to classify infections as community-acquired or healthcare-associated. It monitors for six major types of healthcare-associated infections.
