IBM was awarded a $325 million contract by the Department of Energy to design and build two new supercomputing systems at Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Labs. The systems will be based on IBM's OpenPOWER technology and use GPU accelerators from NVIDIA and interconnect technologies from Mellanox. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz and Senator Lamar Alexander announced the contract, which aims to advance key research initiatives and scientific discovery through highly powerful data-centric supercomputing.
