Crime is increasing as the recession takes hold. Acquisitive crimes like burglaries, robberies, and fraud have risen 25%. Location intelligence is being used by insurers and banks to detect insurance and banking fraud. One example described a bus accident insurance scam where location data showed that many of the claims could not have occurred as the claimants stated. Location intelligence overlays geographical data to identify crime patterns and verify people's claims about where they live.
