5. What’s the purpose of Form I-130?
To establish the existence of a relationship
between a citizen or lawful permanent
resident, and a certain alien who wish to
immigrate to the United States.
Where to start?
To petition for a sibling, a U.S.
Citizen has to start by filing a form
I-130, Petition for Alien Relative.
6. Who can
be a
petitioner?
Only U.S. Citizens can petition
for their siblings (brother or
sister). They must provide:
• Copy of U.S. birth Certificate.
• A Naturalization Certificate.
• Unexpired U.S. Passport.
• Identification to prove that
the petitioner is 21 or older.
7. How to prove a relationship between
the petitioner and the beneficiary?
• Birth Certificate
• For both Petitioner and Beneficiary. To demonstrate that
they at least have one common parent.
• Marriage certificate for the father to each mother.
• Documents that show prior marriage was legally
terminated.
• If they both have a common father but not a common
mother.
8. Important Information
• Attach the check to the documents when sending
them.
• Check payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland
Security”.
• Because fees change periodically, verify the
updated fee for the form on www.uscis.gov or
call to 1-800-375-5283.
Filing Fees
The filing fee for the Form I-130 is $420.
9. If the relationship is through adoption or through
stepparent relationship, some more required
documentation must be filed.
Filing immigration documents can be tricky and
