BIOS
NANCY HOWER, along with producing partner John Lehr, created
the Hulu original comedy “Quick Draw.” Both executive-produce and
co-write the series, while Hower directs, and Lehr stars. Hower cast
Lehr to star in her first feature “Memron,” which won Audience
Awards at both Slamdance and The Taos Film Festival. Hower and
Lehr then teamed up to create the TBS series “10 Items Or
Less” from Sony, which ran for three seasons. Hower served as co-
creator, executive producer, writer and director on the half-hour
comedy. She was nominated for a Women’s Image Network (WIN)
Award for best director of a comedy for both “QuickDraw” and “10
Items of Less”. Hower also served as the co-creator, writer and
director of the Imagine Television/Fox pilot "Take Me to Your Leader,”
and recently wrote a musical titled “The Craving” with composer
Steven Argila.
Hower and Lehr have co-created several shows since forming Howler
Monkey Productions including “Team McPhearson,” an animated show
for Fox revolving around the world of Nascar, and starring Jeff
Foxworthy; “John Lehr’s Movie Club” a pilot for TBS titled,” “Let It
Ride,” a half-hour single-camera comedy shot on location in Las Vegas
for Comedy Central; and “Jailbait,” a series for Sony’s Crackle. The
two completed several pilots, including “Life on Mars” for Sony and
the BBC; “King of Beers,” a comedy set in a brewery for
EUE/Screengems; and “Retreat!,” a half-hour comedy set in a
corporate retreat with EUE/Screengems for NBC.
Recent script/development deals include “The Loop” for HBO, “The
Hippo” for MTV and “Saltwater Summer” for Disney.
HISTORY: After graduating from The Julliard School’s drama
department, Hower performed in many plays both on and off
Broadway including “The Government Inspector” opposite Tony
Randall on Broadway, “Antony and Cleopatra” with Vanessa
Redgrave at The Public Theatre, and “Why We Have a Body” which
won an Obie Award for Best Play. She also originated the role of
Andrea in the play “The Years” at Manhattan Theatre Club.
Hower then moved to Los Angeles to play Yitzak in “Hedwig And
The Angry Inch” opposite Tony Winner, Michael Cerveris. There
she landed a recurring role, playing Ensign Wildman on UPN’s “Star
Trek,” and went on to guest star in various television shows and
independent films. During this time, Nancy also started a band
called Wench, which opened for Tenacious D, and later performed
a solo act opening for Meatloaf on his European tour. Her song
“Prozak Grandma,” is on “The Curve” soundtrack; and “Fernando,”
a song which was co-written with John Patrick Shandley, was sold
to “An Alan Smithee Film.”
JOHN LEHR. co-partner of Howler Monkey Productions, is a comedic performer, writer and producer. He starred as John Henry Hoyle in
“QuickDraw” the half-hour improvisation comedy from Howler production for Hulu which ran two seasons. He starred as Leslie Pool in “10
Items or Less,” the half-hour improvisational comedy from Sony on TBS. Lehr also co-created and executive produced the series which ran
three seasons.
Howler recently scripted the dark comedy pilot “The Loop” for HBO about a couple who downsizes everything and chooses to sail the
Loop — a nautical course that cuts through the heart of America. All goes wrong when they become entangled in a smuggling ring. The pair
also recently developed/scripted “The Hippo” for MTV, a work-place comedy set in a live music venue.
Other recent Howler Productions include “Let It Ride,” a comedy pilot set in Las Vegas for Comedy Central; “Retreat!,” a comedy pilot set
in a corporate retreat for NBC; “King of Beers,” comedy set in a brewery for EUE/Screengem; and “JailBait,” a web series for Sony and
Crackle.com. In addition, Howler Productions created the pilots “Team McPhearson,” an animated series inhabiting the world of Nascar for
Fox starring Jeff Foxworthy; and “John Lehr Movie Club” for TBS. Recently Lehr and Hower completed a pilot script for Sony Television in
association with the BBC entitled “Life on Mars.” Currently Hower and Lehr are scripting the pilot “Saltwater Summer” for Disney.
One of the original Geico Cavemen from the wildly
successful commercial campaign, Lehr appeared in
over 20 national spots, including the first commercial
as a caveman boom operator, the caveman in therapy
with Talia Shire, the tennis spot with Billy Jean King
and Superbowl spots with Phil Simms.
As an actor, John has appeared in numerous television series, including “Friends,” and was a series regular on “Jesse,” both for Warner
Brothers/NBC. His feature film roles include “The Sweetest Thing,” and three Noah Baumbach films, “Kicking and Screaming,” “Mr.
Jealousy,” and “Highball.” John’s hosting credits include “News Weasels” for E!; “I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” for ABC; CBS’
special "Clash of the Commercials” with co-host Heidi Klum; and “John Lehr’s Movie Club” for TBS.
