I am going to focus more on how to raise funds through debt restructuring and many other financial strategies that can be used, some of which may not be mentioned in this particular video.
Many countries are deeply indebted especially the African countries. They are experi
encing serious debt stress, serious financial constraints and some of the problems are inherent while others are from external interferences. But we need to come up with solutions as to how make sure that, that dream, and many other dreams are achieved.
Question: Please, tell us why you chose to discuss the financial strategies for Africa and how leaders need to deal with them?
Answer: It is very difficult for any country to be successful if the financial status of the government is at stake. Finance plays a very pivotal role in the success of any undertaking. We have global initiatives, relating to sustainable development, in the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda, Agenda 2030, and we also have the Agenda 2063", The Africa we want". We can't achieve those dreams unless we have financial muscle that can enable us to catapult our current situation, into global sustainability and global competitiveness.
Question: We have heard about Africa's public debt and how some countries are struggling to pay the debts. Why are they highly indebted?
Answer: First and foremost, are the governance structures that we have in our continent. Governance is very important and governance goes with political will. If there is no effective and efficient governance, the financial resources will be vandalised will be misused, will be mismanaged, and will be misallocated. And that alone can cause financial constraints on the continent, on the country and also globally. So, it is very important to note that financial governance is pivotal, to the success and it starts with the leadership, political will, and this must cascade from the top to the bottom of the social ladder. Then, other factors which hinder financial sustainability some of which are really big are; climate changes, security and stability of the continent, caused by internal or external aggression, and many more. But the bottom line here is that for any organisation to be successful, finance is very important and part of finance that needs to be addressed, relates more to debt. It is important to understand that the financial architecture is biased as far as Africa is concerned. The financing institutions keep talking about RISK. They say that Africa is more risky, we see it as not really true because there are risks everywhere. There is a lot of fighting going on all over the world, there is a lot of instability, drought and everything that can cause inability to finance or to pay the debts, you find that the African countries source debt at an interest rate of more than 5% in many cases. Yet the other countries regarded as developed get finance at 1% that alone is a problem to Africa

How to Come Up With a Business Idea
1. Look Inward for a Business Idea.
1.1 Consider your own skills experiences.
1.2 Value your passion - Passion plays a very big role in deciding on a business that you would like to pursue in the foreseeable future. It gives you confidence and overpowering determination to succeed. E.g. Restaurant, School, Oil refinery, Farm, housing project,
1.3 Identify (a) problem(s) that no one else can solve. Can you come up with a solution and solve it or a similar problem for others? Write down all problems like this, even if you can’t solve it initially.
1.4 Additionally, look to your strengths, skills, and interests for inspiration.
1.5 Analyze Your Own Problems
The best place to look for a business idea is inside of your own problems. What challenges are you running into in your day-to-day life? This doesn’t have to be a brand new business idea. The problem can be as simple as closing a leaking pipe, fighting load shedding. Using Artificial intelligence to resolve a crisis, etc. i.e. a potential problem worth exploring.
Use Your Current Strengths
Many current business owners build a business around their strengths. Strengths may be skills or knowledge you’ve learned from experiences like working in the corporate world or through hobbies. A good example is if you’ve been in debt collection for 20 years and are looking to apply those skills to a certain sales industry, or you’ve learned a lot about soccer through your hobbies and are good at helping friends fix their soccer boots, or getting them at a cheaper price to earn profits.
Niche Down Your Current Skills
Narrow down what you do at your current job and provide a very specific service or product. There is a common business saying that “the riches are in the niches.” Specific services connect well to solve people’s problems.
For example, if you’re a management consultant , you may be able to brand yourself as a consultant in a specific niche, such as Financial management or financial reporting consultant. Branding yourself in a niche will make it easier to connect with the specific business owners looking for your services.
Cross-pollinate Your Skills and Interests
This means coming up with a business idea that mixes two or more unrelated skills or interests. For example, if someone has a full-time job as a panel beater and also enjoys mechanical repairs at a motor repairs and maintenance company, a possible business idea they could pursue is a Mechanical repairs and panel beating company.
2. Look Toward Others for a Business Idea.
2.1 Ask all you can from the already successful people in the areas that you have in mind. If you’re having trouble coming up with an idea from your own experiences, look to problems others are having. Friends and family are usually willing to talk about the regular challenges they run into. Maybe there’s a business idea that can help them overcome their challenges. You can also do research on trends and the current market.

In my previous discussion, I talked about Libya’s situation regarding the construction and destruction that has been taking place over the recent years in Libya, the causes and how to rebuild the country. As suggested by many scholars, I made an appeal to the African Union, to press for the rebuilding and reparation of whatever was destroyed, compensate the country for all the damages that resulted from NATO’s (Northern Atlantic Treaty Organisation) invasion in 2011, the effects of the war including devastations by the floods, and economic sanctions.
Today’s discussion is about the recent and current developments in Ethiopia. We should not only weep but learn from the challenges that we face every time and move on.
Ethiopia has 20 on-going construction projects that will enable Ethiopia to overcome its sustainable development challenges. Thanks to the leadership of the Ethiopian government and its people.
In Ethiopia, Construction is one of the largest industry sectors and according to some estimates, the second largest employment generator after agriculture.
Ethiopia’s infrastructure was expanded in an attempt to create jobs and eradicate poverty. These marvellous projects will stimulate the country’s economy. They include:
● urban development projects,
● bridges,
● dams and
● industrial projects, etc.
1. Genale Dawa III hydroelectric power plant, estimated at 451 Million USD. Construction began in March 2011 and the power station was commercially commissioned in February 2020.
2. Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, estimated at 4 Billion USD. It is a standard gauge international railway that serves as the backbone of the new Ethiopian National Railway Network. The railway was inaugurated on January 1, 2018.
3. Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, estimated at 4.8 Billion USD The primary purpose of the dam is electricity production to relieve Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and for electricity export to neighbouring countries. With a planned installed capacity of 5.15 gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed,[9] as well as among the 20 largest in the world.
4. Addis-Adama Toll Motorway estimated at 145.8 Million USD
It was the first expressway in Ethiopia and East Africa, It was officially opened to the public in September 2014.It was completed at an estimated cost of $612m. It is able to accommodate 15,000 vehicles a day.
With all the above information, let me take this opportunity to extend my sincere appreciation, on behalf of the continent, for the determination, creativity and commitment to these projects. I wish Ethiopia and the rest of the continent success.

For a very long time, Africa has been punching below its weight in terms of entrepreneurship, if compared with the Western, European, Asian and other civilisations.
I take the opportunity of communicating the progress, achievements, challenges and solutions regarding the entrepreneurial activities in Africa, what do they mean to the common man and how does he or she benefit from these initiatives.
1. First is the Aliko Dangote, Oil refinery in Nigeria
Before now, Nigeria was in a paradox being one of the world’s producers and exporters of crude oil and yet one of the biggest importers of oil products. Trilions of Naira, was spent every year in subsidy claims for oil marketers, not to talk of immeasurable losses each time there were diagnosed or perceived fuel shortages.
But now, Aliko Dangote’s integrated oil refinery project, the pioneer refinery will resolve this paradox, with its longest refinery in the world.
2. Next is the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
The primary purpose of the dam is electricity production to relieve Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and for electricity export to neighbouring countries. With a projected installed capacity of more than 5 Gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed, as well as among the 20 largest in the world.
Due to the coup d'état of 1974 and following 17-year-long Ethiopian Civil War, however, the project failed to progress.
On 20 February 2022, the dam produced electricity for the first time, delivering it to the grid at a rate of 375 MW. A second 375 MW turbine was commissioned in August 2022.
The potential impacts of the dam have been the source of severe regional controversy. The Government of Egypt, a country which depends on the Nile for about 97% of its irrigation and drinking water, demanded that Ethiopia cease construction on the dam as a precondition to negotiations, has sought regional support for its position, and some political leaders have discussed methods to sabotage it. The other neighbouring countries are in support of the project.
In recent years due to the threat of a possible airstrike on the dam, the Ethiopian government has sought and bought several air defence systems from Russia, and from Israel.
Negotiations are on-going to ensure that the disputes are settled.
As of April 2023, Ethiopia's Office of National Coordination announced that 90% of constructions had been completed.

Climate change, civil war and international sanctiona all contributed to the devastation caused by some of Libya’s worst flooding ever, researchers say.
There are fears that 20,000 people have died in Libya in devastating floods that began on 11 September 2023. The official death toll of more than 5,000 is likely to increase, at least another 10,000 people are missing.
Two dams collapsed, releasing an estimated 30 million cubic metres of water into the city of Derna. Other towns and cities were also affected.
The immediate cause was extreme rain: the equivalent of a year’s rainfall in 24 hours.
Climate change combined with the effects of Libya’s six-year civil war
and subsequent crisis of governance exacerbated the disaster. There is consensus from different scholars that the political and socio-economic situation in Libya has also contributed to the severity of the disaster.
Libya was ruled by Muammar Gaddafi for decades until the Arab Spring.
When he was deposed in 2011, through the NATO invasion, Libya was engulfed in a civil war, and was made subject to international sanctions the same year.
The country is in disarray. It currently has two rival governments –
one in the west and one in the east - and the economy is struggling.
The literature on the impact of war on infrastructure shows that
if sanctions are placed on a country, maintenance of critical infrastructure cannot be kept up. Sooner or later they will fail.
Libya’s poor infrastructure was as important as the extreme weather in creating devastation. It is likely that the dams above Derna were not constructed to high standards and not regularly maintained. Lack of maintenance is certainly one of the reasons that contributed to the disaster.
Now, if we are to face reality, the civil war and governance crisis in Libya were partly contributed by NATO. The man-made river was turning the desert into arable land, and restoring the continent’s ecosystem. But now, the exact opposite is happening.

In this video, we see how the countries involved in conflicts in Ethiopia, the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance dam, are making compromises, to save the bombing of the infrastructure, and focus on the benefits to the entire region and Africa at large. Discussions between the countries involved had reached a deadlock. What does this mean?
The positive perception will lead to an end in the suffering of our people, especially the African common man through great initiatives within and around the region, to perform entrepreneurship activities, which will enable the continent to achieve sustainable development. Africa must stop treading along counter-productive paths,
that keep our continent either stagnant or impoverished. We are not stupid, we are not bewitched, we are not cursed. We just need to embrace each other in all our doings. With unity, everything is possible, and the sky is the limit. If we don’t change, the whole continent will remain underdeveloped and vulnerable to re-colonisation. We must not let this happen.

EFFECTS OF CONFLICTS IN THE COUNTRY

This is a clear example how conflicts in Africa derail the progress towards economic development. For such a long time, 17 years, the project had come to a standstill, preventing Ethiopia from addressing its acute energy challenges and inability to export electricity to neighbouring countries, hindering other investments from being undertaken, thus keeping the population around in poverty, joblessness and fear.
On 31 March 2011, a day after the project was made public, a US$4.8 billion contract was awarded without competitive bidding to Italian company Salini Impregilo, and the dam's foundation stone was laid on 2 April 2011 by the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.[19] A rock-crushing plant was constructed, along with a small air strip for fast transportation. The expectation was for the first two power-generation turbines to become operational after 44 months of construction, or early 2015.
It should be noted that such a huge project was awarded without competitive bidding. This means that there was no room for comparing prices, specification and / or any other value for money benefits.
Egypt, located over 2,500 kilometres (1,600 mi) downstream of the site, opposes the dam, which it believes will reduce the amount of water available from the Nile. Zenawi argued,
How politicians can eradicate re-colonisation & poverty by silencing the gun ...
This is a plea to everybody on the African continent, wherever you are, that we must put an end to conflicts, silence the gun, and focus on issues that lead to the sustainable development of our continent.
If we don’t do so, our continent will be re-colonised, whether we want or not. An aggressive campaign is required to achieve this mission plus continuous sensitisation of our people to be entrepreneurs. But all these efforts will go down the drain, if there is no peace in the continent.
I plead to the military that is currently in power, in the countries affected, to fulfil their promises of returning power to the civilians within the specified period.

Climate change, civil war and international sanctiona all contributed to the devastation caused by some of Libya’s worst flooding ever, researchers say.
There are fears that 20,000 people have died in Libya in devastating floods that began on 11 September 2023. The official death toll of more than 5,000 is likely to increase, at least another 10,000 people are missing.
Two dams collapsed, releasing an estimated 30 million cubic metres of water into the city of Derna. Other towns and cities were also affected.
The immediate cause was extreme rain: the equivalent of a year’s rainfall in 24 hours.
Climate change combined with the effects of Libya’s six-year civil war
and subsequent crisis of governance exacerbated the disaster. There is consensus from different scholars that the political and socio-economic situation in Libya has also contributed to the severity of the disaster.
Libya was ruled by Muammar Gaddafi for decades until the Arab Spring.
When he was deposed in 2011, through the NATO invasion, Libya was engulfed in a civil war, and was made subject to international sanctions the same year.
The country is in disarray. It currently has two rival governments –
one in the west and one in the east - and the economy is struggling.
The literature on the impact of war on infrastructure shows that
if sanctions are placed on a country, maintenance of critical infrastructure cannot be kept up. Sooner or later they will fail.
Libya’s poor infrastructure was as important as the extreme weather in creating devastation. It is likely that the dams above Derna were not constructed to high standards and not regularly maintained. Lack of maintenance is certainly one of the reasons that contributed to the disaster.
Now, if we are to face reality, the civil war and governance crisis in Libya were partly contributed by NATO. The man-made river was turning the desert into arable land, and restoring the continent’s ecosystem. But now, the exact opposite is happening.

The primary purpose of the dam is electricity production to relieve Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and for electricity export to neighbouring countries. With a planned installed capacity of 5.15 gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed, as well as among the 20 largest in the world.
On 20 February 2022, the dam produced electricity for the first time, delivering it to the grid at a rate of 375 MW.[3] A second 375 MW turbine was commissioned in August 2022.
EFFECTS OF CONFLICTS IN THE COUNTRY
Due to the coup d'état of 1974 and following 17-year-long Ethiopian Civil War, the project failed to progress.
This is a clear example how conflicts in Africa derail the progress towards economic development. For such a long time, 17 years, the project had come to a standstill, preventing Ethiopia from addressing its acute energy challenges and inability to export electricity to neighbouring countries, hindering other investments from being undertaken, thus keeping the population around in poverty, joblessness and fear.
On 31 March 2011, a day after the project was made public, a US$4.8 billion contract was awarded without competitive bidding to Italian company Salini Impregilo, and the dam's foundation stone was laid on 2 April 2011 by the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.[19] A rock-crushing plant was constructed, along with a small air strip for fast transportation. The expectation was for the first two power-generation turbines to become operational after 44 months of construction, or early 2015.
It should be noted that such a huge project was awarded without competitive bidding. This means that there was no room for comparing prices, specification and / or any other value for money benefits.
Egypt, located over 2,500 kilometres (1,600 mi) downstream of the site, opposes the dam, which it believes will reduce the amount of water available from the Nile. Zenawi argued,

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental Health
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
