The Portuguese Hotel aimed to create a relaxed yet hip atmosphere centered around its restaurant and lobby areas. The lobby features a focal point jellyfish-inspired water fountain surrounded by polished concrete, slate, and glass materials offsetting a purple onyx floor pattern. The bedrooms employ a more geometric design than the lobby through the use of purple glass, grey custom headboards, and canopies to tie into the overall relaxed atmosphere of the hotel.

1. THE PORTUGESE HOTEL
The atmosphere for the hotel was designed to
relaxed and hip, affording the restaurant to play a
large part in the creation of the atmosphere and
utilising it to be a big draw for both guests and
non-guests throughout the day.
The large spaces in the lobby are complemented by
the sound of running water from the focal point,
inspired by the colours and shape of jellyfish.

The volatile nature of the jellyfish is
reflected through the sharp lines that
trace the floor in the lobby bar area.
The use of high white polished
concrete, grey slate counter tops,
smooth grey glass and soft voile walls
offsets the feature purple onyx floor
pattern and feature fountain.

2. Bedroom
The Bedrooms employ
a more contrasting
geometric design rather
than the organic curves
utilised in the lobby.
The purple glass set
into the grey custom
head board and canopy
tie the room design to
the overall relaxed
atmosphere present
in through the rest of
the hotel.
