Over 150,000 people come to work in Canada each year on Temporary Work Permits. Getting here on a
By Patrick Peltier Temporary Permit is fairly easy, and the first step in being here for good as a Citizen. Below are some
April 13, 2013 steps to know about when coming to work in Canada from another country.

              1. Employer Sponsorship The first thing you need is a sponsor, and your new employer may need to apply for and be
approved a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). This just assures that there is reasonable doubt the employer will find a
worker in Canada and is usually approved given the high demand for nannies and caregivers in Canada.
              2. Employer Send the Job Offer After the Labour Market Opinion has been approved, the employer will send you a
formal written Temporary Job Offer, along with the LMO. Pretty simple so far, wouldn't you agree?
              3. You Apply for The Permit With your new Job Offer, and the LMO from your new employer, you then apply to Human
Resources and Skills Development Canada for a 'Temporary Work Permit'. Now this only applies to provinces other
than Quebec. Although you still need a work permit from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada , in Quebec,
you will also need an additional Temporary Work Permit called 'Certificat d'acceptation du Québec'.
              4. Temporary Resident Visa Most like you will need to apply and be approved for a Temporary Resident Visa. If you
come from a Visa Exempt Country, You don't need to worry about this. However, many will, and you will need the same
the Job Offer, LMO from your new employer, and possibly, medical and criminal checks with this application. If you
don't need the medical and criminaldocuments now, you will when entering the country, so be sure to have them
regardless. I don't really need to mention it, but I will; if your medical or criminal check documents don't look good, you
may not be allowed in the country.
              5. Your Permits Are Issued If all the above are completed successfully, you will receive your permits and your new
employer can arrange for transportation into Canada. When arriving, make sure you have any identification possible,
as you will be rejected if you do not meet the Border Patrol Requirements!

There you have it. If all this goes smoothly, then in no time, you're on a plane, boat or bus coming to work in Canada! With
that said; I would like to welcome you to our amazing country. I hope you will enjoy it here and find the dreams you have Ask a Canadian
