Henderson Wilcox

4. Why is Hollywood actually
called Hollywood?
• In 1887, the wife of Harvey
Henderson Wilcox liked the name of
a property in the known area so
much, that she wanted her husband
to call his property Hollywood

• It starts in New York
• They brought together almost all the
film industries
• Then they dominated the film market
• Carl Laemmle, Adolph Zukor, Marcus
Loew and William Fox went
independent
• In 1910, they went to Hollywood and
made films
