1. Special Education Services (SES) is a nonprofit organization founded by parents of children with disabilities and incorporated in October, 2000. In May 2001, SES was accorded 501(c)(3) status. SES' founders are all parents of disabled children, and SES is staffed by two part-time attorneys, an outreach coordinator and a project coordinator.

2. Since its incorporation, SES has served over 2000 families, special education professionals, and school systems. In the past, SES has received partial funding from the US Department of Education, The Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Legal Rights, The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council, private contributions, and the Bruening Foundation. Currently, SES is in its third year of a three year federal grant as a Community Parent Resource Center. SES is the only CPRC in the State of Ohio.

3. Children with disabilities are entitled to a free, appropriate public education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The mission of SES is to help families understand their children’s special education needs and legal rights, to educate parents to advocate for needed services, and to provide individual technical assistance to economically disadvantaged families to enforce those rights.
