This document provides a history of music in film from the early 1900s to the present. It describes how accompanists provided live music to mask noise from early silent films. Composers began writing original scores in the early 20th century. The integration of recorded songs and jazz influenced scores in the 1950s-1970s. Synthesizers became prevalent in the 1980s-1990s alongside increased use of pop/rock soundtracks. Technology has allowed more experimental scores while maintaining classical traditions.
