[WSO2 Summit Americas 2020] Towards Greater Interoperability With A Proven In...WSO2
Healthcare records are increasingly becoming digitized. As patients move around the healthcare ecosystem, their electronic health records must be available, discoverable, and understandable. Further, to support automated clinical decisions and other machine-based processing, the data must also be structured and standardized. This is becoming a matter of interest for institutes such as government agencies and regional bodies, and we are already seeing rules and regulations come into action.
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) is a next-generation standard framework created by HL7 combining the best features of previous HL7 standards. FHIR® leverages the latest web standards and focuses on ease of implementability.
In this deck, Nirmal will introduce WSO2 Healthcare Integration Platform and demonstrate how it boosts developer productivity when exposing FHIR® APIs.

Rapid advancements in healthcare have led to new opportunities for healthcare IT. As the US healthcare system moves forward, health IT has to keep pace and define an interoperable ecosystem. FHIR® is becoming the standard for healthcare information exchange. Murad will share Prime’s journey on how they have partnered with WSO2 towards this evolution.
Meet, Redox. The full-service healthcare integration platform changing the way provider organizations and technology vendors exchange data.

Solving Interoperability: The Redox APIRedox Engine
Healthcare interoperability is an industry-wide problem with complicated origins. It's difficult to solve, but there is a way—the Redox approach to networked interoperability.
Redox provides a modern API for healthcare integration and interoperability that allows developers to build integrations once using consistent JSON formats. Their platform supports coordination, monitoring, engagement and analytics across use cases like patient reporting, remote monitoring, scheduling and more. Redox connects healthcare organizations and applications through a single network for networked interoperability.
Redox is an integration engine that allows data to flow securely between applications and health systems through a single connection. It manages connections so applications do not have to deal with VPN outages or inconsistent health messages. Implementing Redox allows integration with various digital health solutions while minimizing the effort required by health system IT teams. Redox helps applications develop integration strategies that work across different electronic health record vendors.
This document is from Redox, a company that provides APIs for healthcare integration. It summarizes Redox's experience in EHR integration, their goal to simplify integration through a standardized API, and their services which include implementation support, ongoing maintenance of connections, and a consistent data model across customers. Redox integrates key areas like scheduling, patient records, transcription, and clinical data, and aims to take on the complexity of integration so companies can focus on their products.
Redox provides cloud-based integration between electronic health records (EHRs) and over 300 other applications. Their integration engine maintains connections securely and consistently through JSON models, reducing costs compared to traditional point-to-point interfaces. Healthcare organizations can access Redox's large ecosystem of integrated apps with minimal IT resources required through Redox's expert implementation team and lightweight cloud architecture.

The Redox Engine is a new type of interface engine that allows you to easily share data with any application or affiliated health system you choose. We transform your existing interfaces into modern APIs through a single, secure connection.
The document summarizes the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association's (BCBSA) mediation layer architecture. It discusses how BCBSA uses a mediation services platform to broker services for plan members who access data stored in multiple locations. The platform provides service brokering, integration, and security capabilities to enable access to local and remote healthcare services and data through a single interface.
Integration in the Age of Value-Based Care: Webinar SlidesRedox Engine
http://blog.redoxengine.com/integration-webinar-recap/
Just wanted to offer a quick re-cap of our most recent webinar. You can watch me fumble through it on crowdcast here:
https://www.crowdcast.io/e/digitalhealthintegration-redox
To set the stage, I gave an overview of EHR adoption, the shift towards value-based care, the increased demand for interoperability (i14y). Then I moved into how application interoperability works and how Redox can help--walking through the architecture.
We ended with a discussion led by questions from y'all. Things like:
How easy is your API to use?
How long does it take from signing a contract to having a connection go live with a health system?
We just completed our first CCD interface (Cerner). What is your experience with CCD interfaces and do you find that they are standard from one EHR to another?
and so much more!
Check it out here to see me stare awkwardly, rant about the industry, and fumble through questions.
Open vs Closed APIs to Enabled InteroperabilityRedox Engine
Nick Hatt gave a talk on open vs closed APIs and interoperability. He discussed his experience connecting to various EHR vendor APIs, including proprietary, XCA/XDR, and FHIR APIs. He concluded that developers should evaluate the business models behind APIs, as there is variance in an API's utility depending on the product. APIs may not be truly "open" or "closed"; developers need to consider how their product can benefit the API provider and healthcare organizations.
Healthcomms provides a software suite called MyHomeReach that allows independent seniors and those with chronic conditions to connect with caregivers for communication and to share biometric data and educational materials. MyHomeReach facilitates video calls, messages, and alerts between users and their care network while also capturing notes from home health providers. The solution is deployed on Windows and Android and connects users to various care services through a central control tower application.

Integrating PRO Solutions with Health System EHRsRedox Engine
This document discusses the problems with traditional PRO solutions, including extensive staff training requirements, tedious manual data entry, and error-prone and unrepresentative results due to low patient participation. It promotes a company called Redox that offers EHR integration to streamline and automate PRO collection, increase patient engagement, collect robust patient data, and require minimal manual entry and staff training. Redox helps by building a single API connection regardless of EHR, handling all connectivity issues, and enabling more efficient executions that require less health system resources than typical integrations.
