Hope Manor Veterans Housing provides safe, affordable housing in addition to educational, employment,
and social services. Located at 3053 West Franklin Boulevard, this development provides housing for up
to 50 homeless Veterans and affordable housing for up to 30 Veterans requiring less intensive but
longer-term housing and support.
Henneman was responsible for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering
portion of this new four-story mixed-use building with 30 studio apartments; 10 two-bedroom suites and
10 three-bedroom suites. The first floor includes commercial kitchen space and dining, counseling
offices, a multi-purpose room, a health & wellness center, mechanical space & storage, and a computer
center. The facility also includes private, enclosed green space for residents and laundry facilities on
every floor.
The overriding design concept was creation of a supportive housing development that serves the needs
of Veterans and fosters a sense of community. The Hope Manor development achieved this goal in the
most environmentally sensitive manner possible. It is a high performance building which utilizes
numerous design techniques to reduce energy consumption, environmental pollution, and increase
indoor air quality. Features such as high-recycled content materials, high insulation values in windows
and walls, and high efficiency mechanical systems (solar thermal hot water delivery), a green roof and
interior materials with low off-gasing and toxicity were
employed. These features combine to create an exceptional
living environment for the residents. This extreme emphasis
on energy efficiency in the mechanical systems and
insulation net significant reductions in utility bill costs when
compared to other buildings of similar size.
