2. Introduction
• The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the
Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in
2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and
ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. - UNDP
• All together 17 SDGs , 169 targets and 230 indicators .
• SDGs must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

3. Health related SDG
SDGs3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
• It includes 13 targets and 25 indicators
SDGs 16: Promote justice, peaceful and inclusive societies is also
directly or indirectly related with health and helps to achieve the target
of SDG 3.

4. In the context of Nepal
• In the past two decades, Nepal has more than halved proportion of
people living in poverty line , from 49% in 1992 to23% in 2015.
• Reduced child and maternal mortality rate.
• In Nepal, life expectancy at birth has improved by 7.7 years i.e. 62.5
years in 2000 to 70.2 years in 2016.
• Similarly, healthy life expectancy has improved by 6.2 years i.e. 55.1
years in 2000 and 61.3 years in 2016

5. Target by 2030
Reduce global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live
births
End preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age
End the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected
tropical diseases and other communicable diseases
Reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable
diseases

6. Strengthen prevention and treatment of substance abuse
Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care
services
Substantially, reduce the number of deaths and illness from hazardous
chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination.

7. • By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road
traffic accidents
• Achieve universal health coverage
• Strengthen the implementation of the World Health Organization
Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in all countries
• Support the research and development of vaccines and medicines for
the communicable and non-communicable diseases

8. • Substantially increase health financing and the recruitment,
development, training and retention of the health work force in
developing countries
• Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing
countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of
national and global health risks.

• Based on the target and indicators of heath related sustainable
development goals, situation is identified as per the available data in
graphical form.

25. Pathway to achieve
• Closed the development gaps in terms of gender, social groups and
geographical locations.
• Helps to meet unmet targets as possible and focus on economic
growth strategy which helps in achieving others goals.
• Also working to fill the gap between data required for SDGs
monitoring and the existing data availability for the same.
• UHC can be achieved by addressing the need of the poor, women and
excluded groups through pro-poor and target free health care policies
and programs

• Providing technical support and funds to the government by External
Development Partners (EDPs) along with UN agencies.
• Malnutrition can be reduced by linking child health program along
with nutrition program.
• Encourage delivery at health facilities along with SBA assistance.
• For the prevention and control of NCD(2014-2020), multi-sectoral
action plan has been developed.

• For reducing road traffic accidents, Nepal has prepared Road Safety
Action Plan which is under implementation.
• SDGs indicators should be strongly aligned in annual work plan which
will helps in progress monitoring of SDGs.
• Immunization budget should be increased from general taxation.
