The document is a website audit report for www.vetsprobono.org conducted by Karl Scott. It provides an overview of the organization and purpose of the website. Karl analyzed the website using various tools and found that the navigation was difficult to read and the home page lacked clear calls to action. He provided recommendations to simplify the home page content, improve navigation readability, and add image carousels and social media links to create a better user experience.

How to Design an Irresistible Website that Attracts the Right MembersWild Apricot
Is your website’s look and feel modern and professional? Or is it holding you back from growing your membership?
In this digital age, your nonprofit’s website can make or break member engagement and donations — visitors are often wary of websites that look dated or don’t give a good online experience.
In this webinar, nonprofit design expert Sarah Henry from Elevation Web will show you how to appeal to your potential members, so you can design a website that builds trust, surpasses expectations, and increases membership applications.
In the webinar that these slides go with we explore different approaches to integrating user testing into the development of legal content for diverse audiences. Examples include user testing in the following contexts: the development of a website and mobile app in the immigration sphere, the rollout of a pro bono mobilization website, content development for a statewide website, and enhancements to user experience when navigating online forms for courts.

Website Best Practices for Law Firms
The legal industry is changing—global mergers and consolidation, new web, email and social technologies are evolving dynamically along with new expectations from clients as well as employees. Digital capabilities, particularly a firm’s website, provide the first tool to engage existing clients, new clients and employees. But for more than a decade, law firms have considered their websites as just another brochure, not as a way for clients to interact with the firm. Law firms must establish an online presence to promote their brand, facilitate better engagement between the brand and the consumer, recruit new talent and ultimately, acquire new clients.

2. www.vetsprobono.org
❖ Role - Solutions Architect
❖ Challenge - audit a government funded non-profit’s “list of
links” website and make suggestions for a better customer
experience
❖ Answer - perform a site audit. Do a competitive analysis.
Apply solutions based on best practices and Google
Analytics
❖ Process - utilize web tools to assist in the audit and
analyzation of information provided and acquired.
3. Overview
❖ www.vetsprobono.org is a website run by “The Veterans Consortium Pro
Bono Program”, a government funder organization that assists Veterans
with their appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
❖ They were interested in creating a more dynamic website that is
engaging, clear and simple to our veterans, families and volunteer
attorneys so that the appropriate audiences can access our services faster.
❖ They have an active website with youtube videos and links to booklets
and other resources.
❖ The following is my analysis and the suggestions that I made that were
implemented.
4. Research Results
❖ According to
“www.mysiteauditor.com” when
compared to our competition we
beat them in various aspects of
web setup
❖ We also ranked higher on google
searches usually in the top ten for
searches such as “VA benefit
appeal” or “veteran benefit
appeal”
❖ Conclusion - The backend setup is
doing well
7. Home Page Analysis
❖ One small image and mostly bullet text
❖ Mostly navigation, minimal content, aka “a
list of links”
❖ Navigation is hard to read
❖ At first glance there isn’t a specific place for
the eye to land with little instruction or
assistance for where to go or what to do
❖ According to our Google Analytics for the
month of September, with both the new user
and the returning user, over half of them on
both sides are leaving after 2.5 pages
viewed. They stay on the site for 2:12 so they
need to find what they are looking for within
three minutes/three click or they will
“bounce”.
8. Home Page - Recommendations
❖ To simplify the homepage
(less bullets) would help
with the display of the
goals and mission, to help
Veteran’s with their
application for benefit
appeals with Health,
Pension and Housing,
connecting with volunteer
lawyers and getting the
word out about what Vets
Pro Bono is all about. These
or any three main subjects/
topics that you would
choose.
9. Home Page - Recommendations
❖ Navigation needed to
be clear and readable.
❖ There can be several
carousel linkable
images of your
choice/creation to
start and connect with
users with content
attached.
10. How to Appeal - Recommendations
❖ Whether in the image carousel
or the static “widgit” links
below, one of these locations
needs to have a link to “Apply
for Services”
❖ In the past, after clicking
“Apply for Services” the first
thing seen for appeals is a
question
❖ The first thing they see should
be are the requirements/
checklist to qualify, then the
link to the form and then FAQs
and or link to a help request
form.
11. Social Media Suggestions
❖ Link to a social media accounts from
your home page. Why is this
important?
❖ US Internet users spend 3X more
time on blogs and social networks
than on email. Make it easy for
people to follow you however they
want by letting them know where
you can be found right up front.
❖ The average company saw a 185%
increase in traffic after crossing 1,000
Facebook likes (Veteran’s Disability
Lawyers has over 1,000 likes)
