Halabja is a city located in Kurdistan, Iraq that was bombarded by Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath regime in 1988, killing thousands of civilians. In 2003, a memorial monument was built in Halabja on 1600 square meters to commemorate the 1988 attack. The monument features 16 vertical pillars and 4 hands reaching toward the sky, symbolizing the year and number of victims. It contains archives and remains from the attack, as well as reception halls that display artifacts and information about the event. The monument was burned by protestors in 2005 but rebuilt in 2006.

1. HALABJA MONOMENT
Halabja is located east_north of Kurdistan on 46longitudude and
35latetude,80km. is far from east – south of sulaimany city . 24 years ago
halabja was bomberrd by (Baes regime) in 1988 at 11:30am for that purpose as
a pain anniveasasry of halabja and formore explanation of thatsavage work of
(Baes regime) against this city (jalal talabani) the president of Iraq republic
suggested to build a monument in the city and (Dr.Barham salih) prime
minister of hurdistan regional govern ment has a great role in building it . in
2003 the monument was built on an area of 1600m and hight of 1988cm in a
circular shape ,whith 16vertical, 4hands and 16 fingers are stood towards sky in
the hands the symbol of the globe is seen and in the inside its divided in to two
departments archives department which contains all evidences,photos,writings
and remainders like (Abu tahsin) ,which the forgein contries pay millions of
mony to buy it ,and the pen by which (Ali kemyayi)s execution judgment was
carried out and also the rope he was executed by and many gifts and reseption
hall which is subdividedinto fuor departments which consist of historical hall
here the martyrs corpses of disaster have created in real way and the names of
all the disasters martyrs are in the second hall and the third hall is the
monument hall , and the photos of the bombardment monument are at the
fourth hall , in 2005 the monument was burned by halabja population in
ademonstration against the government in the same year it has been renewed in
2006 it has been rebuilt.
