Guy Fawkes was caught trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 to assassinate King James I in what became known as the Gunpowder Plot. Now every November 5th, people in Britain celebrate Bonfire Night by making effigies of Guy Fawkes to burn on bonfires, watching fireworks displays, and eating traditional foods like bangers and mash or toffee apples. The celebration commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes' capture.
