Guy Fawkes was caught trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 to assassinate King James I in what became known as the Gunpowder Plot. Now every November 5th, people in Britain celebrate Bonfire Night by making effigies of Guy Fawkes to burn on bonfires, lighting fireworks, and eating traditional foods like bangers and mash or toffee apples to commemorate his failed assassination attempt.
