Gustavo Pereira. Poet, essayist and literary critic Venezuelan National Prize of
Literature in his country, and former director of the magazines and Tropic One
National Magazine, is among the most prominent poets of his generation.
Biographical synthesis
Was born in Punta de Piedras, Margarita Island, Venezuela, Nueva Esparta
state, on 7 March 1940. He received his Phd in literary studies at the University
of Paris. He was the founder of the Department of Humanities and Social
Sciences and the Research Center Socio-Human self of the Universidad de
Oriente.
Formed part of the group "Symbol" since 1958. He was the director and founder
of the magazine Tropics one of Puerto La Cruz, where it resides today. In 1961
published his first book of poems under the name of travel arrangements and,
from there, Pereira has developed a significant literary work which includes
more than twenty books, including poetry, essay and literary notes. It is
considered one of the most genuine voices of the contemporary Venezuelan
literature.
