GUNS IN SCHOOL?

VIEWS AND MOTIVATIONS

Lz Granderson believes that teachers should not be armed. Its hard and
dangerous enough with professionals let alone an untrained teacher.
The author doesn’t have much to gain because he writes weekly articles for
                                   CNN.
CNN is paying for the website.
Yes he puts his political point of view quite a few times.
CLAIMS TO SUPPORT THE
     ARGUMENT
VIEWS AND MOTIVATIONS 2

Jen Brockman believes teachers should not carry guns in school because they
                         are already busy enough.
She doesn’t have that much to gain she just writes the article.
                       MSNBC pays for the website.
She puts here personal opinion in throughout the article.
RELIABILITY

The Article is reliable because the website it is on is known to be reliable and
he uses factually information. However, it is the writers opinion and the same
argument could be made for the opposing viewpoint.
CONCLUSION

It is understood that school shootings are a rising threat. Yet is this the correct
way to combat violence? With more violence? Essentially, to arm a teacher is
to add more bullets, more violence, and more death to the scene. Already,
policemen have trouble hitting a target, yet what of an untrained, nervous
teacher tasked with saving his/her students? A teacher with a gun will be
much more likely to use it to save the student, although a violent response to a
person with violent intent will certainly trigger a chain of events, for hit rates
against live targets are low even among policemen, and kill rates low as well,
perhaps leading to even more unnecessary deaths. Again, fighting violence
with more violence simply adds fuel to the flame.
WHAT TO THINK OF THE THINK
                           ALOUD PROJECT?

The Think Aloud Project is very important to teachers because teachers
verbalize aloud while reading a selection orally. Their verbalizations include
describing things they're doing as they read to monitor their comprehension.
The purpose of the think-aloud strategy is to model for students how skilled
readers construct meaning from a text. By engaging poor readers in coached
practice in the think-aloud method, we are providing them with the
opportunity and guidance they need to choose useful, appropriate strategies to
enhance reading comprehension. We are encouraging them to think about why
and when to use certain strategies, and providing them with the tools they
need to successfully monitor their own comprehension. With enough
modeling and coached practice, students will be on their way to becoming
                         independent users of strategies.
