The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean. It is located between Hawaii and California and contains over 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic floating in the ocean. The trash is concentrated by the North Pacific Gyre, a circular ocean current that acts like a spinning toilet bowl, trapping debris that drifts or is washed into the ocean.
