The Grange Movement began in 1867 to promote the economic and social well-being of farmers and their families. It aimed to help farmers overcome isolation through social activities and cooperation, as well as lobby for farmers' interests. At its peak in the late 19th century, the Grange had over 1.5 million members nationwide and played a major role in rural communities.
