1. STALLION CLASS PRESIDENT’S SPEECH ON JUNE 5, 2016
The Visitor, The Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, President/Vice Chancellor, Senior Vice
Presidents, Other principal officers of the University, Provosts, Deans, Heads of
Departments, Faculty and Staff, All Invited Guests, Beloved Parents of The Stallion
Class, The Stallion Class, Other Great Students of Babcock University, Distinguished
Ladies and Gentlemen, all protocols duly observed.
The day we all hoped for is finally upon us, when we throw our caps in the air and bid
our farewells. I would like to use this medium to congratulate my fellow scholars who
laboured and persevered to make it to this great day, many have fallen along the way
but we have come thus far with great joy in our hearts, proud to march on.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think
intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true
education.”
On this note, I would therefore humbly admonish us to carry on our legacy anywhere
we find ourselves, exhibiting the values which have been inculcated in us through
holistic education - The best instrument to change the world. Also bear in mind that
you are an ambassador of greatness and never to be afraid to show your proficiency in
positive areas where your talents lie.
Richard Mitchell in September 1982, wrote in The Underground Grammarian saying:
“There is only one Education, and it has only one goal: the freedom of the mind.
Anything that needs an adjective, be it civics education, or socialist education, or
Christian education, or whatever-you-like education, is not education, and it has
some different goal. The very existence of modified “educations” is testimony to
the fact that their proponents cannot bring about what they want in a mind that is
free. An “education” that cannot do its work in a free mind, and so must “teach”
by homily and precept in the service of these feelings and attitudes and beliefs
rather than those, is pure and unmistakable tyranny.”
Stallion Class consists of students created as achievers who will survive all odds and
conquer at all cost. A great honor indeed it has been leading a group of skilled leaders,
great men and women who are driven by the willingness to attain greatness and who
possess an innate swiftness to conquer. This for me distinguishes these graduates from
any other. I can confidently say, we are the best there was, the best there is and the
best there ever would be. With Sunday, June 5, 2016 engraved in our hearts to join the
throng of BABCOCK GREATS in impacting the world with the resilience and
strength of the Stallion, Stallion Class is ready to conquer.
In conclusion, God wants us to know that life is a series of beginnings, not endings,
just as graduations are not terminations, but commencements. Creation is an ongoing
process, and when we create a perfect world where love and compassion are shared
by all, suffering will cease.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS.
BENJAMIN GOODLUCK C.
PRESIDENT, STALLION CLASS 2016
