What is the Graduate Passport?
• Achievement record, recognising and rewarding students like you, for
activities not accredited to your course.
• Provides a supportive and flexible framework to enhance your graduate
attributes/employability skills.
• Open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Throughout your time at University. However only activities
completed or started after 21st
October 2009 can be submitted.
• Points based programme which consists of a selection of over
60 activities which are completed to achieve your passport.

What the Graduate Passport is NOT
• It is NOT only for 3rd
years or Graduates (It is open to all students)
• Its is NOT a real Passport!
• It is NOT part of any Visa applications and will not help with the
tier 4 visa application process.

How do you gain points and achieve your passport?
• To achieve the passport you need to successfully obtain 200 points.
• 35 points are accumulated by completing the Core Programme which is
mandatory for all students.
• The next 75 points are accumulated by selecting and completing one of our
packages; Active Citizen, Entrepreneur, Global Graduate, Developing
Professional Package.
• The remainder of your points are gained by completing individual activities in
the packages or ‘general options’ events.
• Once you have successfully achieved your passport you will be presented with
a certificate at the end of the academic year.

• 35 points are accumulated by completing the Core Programme which is
mandatory for all students.
• Core Programme Activities – CD Induction Tour, Personal Reflection
Sessions, Guidance Interview, Submission of a professional CV, submission of
a school reference.
• Personal Reflection Sessions:
1. Introduce you to different reflection models to enable you to identify the skills
and experiences you have gained from different activities and provide
evidence for these attributes.
2. Present to each other discussing your progress so far on the Graduate Passport
and acknowledge highlights and lowlights of your journey and activities
undertaken. Provide feedback to one another.
3. Discuss your experiences and whether your perceptions have changed and
what you will take away form the Graduate Passport. Individual action career
plans.

Why should you get involved?
• Ever increasing competitive market - to stand out from the crowd a good
degree is essential, but is not enough.
• The passport provides an opportunity for you to develop your graduate skills
and attributes within a supportive, flexible framework.

Voluntary Services)
• The passport will give you the confidence to stand out from the crowd in the
market place by completing reflective sessions analysing the skills you have
developed.

What next…
• Fill in the Action Planning Sheets
• Attend the events and activities you wish to claim points for and the collect
evidence (email confirmation, sign in sheets, photos).
• Graduate Passport Proof of activity/event completion forms can be
downloaded from the website or picked up from Career Destinations. Fill in
the form, get signed by relevant person then submit to Career Destinations
with some extra evidence attached if possible.
• We will then upload your points and they will be visible via your Student
Portal. Please allow 4-5 working days for your points to show on the system.

Open to all students until you Graduate. Called G.P as is it your passport to success once you Graduate!
Core Programme Activities – CD Induction Tour, Personal Reflection Sessions, Guidance Interview, Submission of a professional CV, submission of a school reference.
Active Citizen Package – Focus on community involvement and citizenship incorporating activities such as volunteering work, becoming an active member of societies and representing your school department or union.
Entrepreneur Package - focuses on business, social enterprise and creativity and initiative through various projects and activities. E.g Attendance at an enterprise event, Member of a recognised enterprise club or society.
Global Graduate Package – Developing international awareness either through travel/work abroad or engaging in with different cultures in the UK. E.g. Attendance global awareness conference, study/work/volunteering abroad, International buddy or befriender.
Developing Professional Package- Participate in a range of activities across the 3 other packages to develop a broad spectrum of experiences to reflect on.

The event guide 2010/11 is a new brochure which you can pick up in your 1:1 CV Clinics and also at Career Destinations reception.
This booklet provides you with all the information on Career Destinations and what we offer in regards to events. The Guide offers you the chance to explore the wide range of services in CD, with detailed information on Skills Workshops, Starting Point Talks, Mock Interviews, CV Clinics and Employer Presentations.
You will also learn how to improve your employer interaction by attending prepare for the fair workshops, and new for 2010/11, Speed Networking sessions.
The events guide will ensure you stand out from the crowd and put you head and shoulders above the rest.
To provide an interactive approach to your career planning, we also offer students one-to-one guidance activities and innovative group events
We also run a number of Careers Events during the year. The events include:
Starting Point Talks – talks from major employers and Careers Advisers on issues around the selection process, such as CV writing, interview techniques etc. These can be booked online through our Career Destinations Events Calendar
Skills Workshops – 90 min interactive sessions covering topics such as interview skills, practice psychometric tests and presentation skills. These can be booked online - Please be aware that you MUST bring your Student ID to every event or your attendance will not be recorded and you will not receive your graduate passport points.
Mock Interviews - Mock selection interviews with major graduate recruiters or with a Careers Adviser, plus feedback. Please book with the Career Destinations Centre, you will need to take an electronic copy of your CV with you. Again Please note that once booked, failure to attend and register at the start of this event without notifying Career Destinations will result in a £10 charge issued to your student account.
Employer presentations Take place mainly in Autumn and early Spring Term, either in lunch hours or in the evenings held within Garden Court. Opportunity for employers to promote their opportunities to you with the chance to network afterwards –
Career Fairs – BMF 11.00-3.30pm Tuesday 19th October, and ITSE Wednesday 20th October in Garden Court.
Career Destinations tours: These are available to anyone wanting a introduction to the Career Destinations Centre and to see what information and resources are available to you. These tours are 30 minutes long and are led by a member of the Research and Information team.
Regular e-mails - to inform you about events and other useful opportunities that you may be interested in
Group CV Session – A new and innovative group cv session has just been created where up to 7 students join up with a career adviser and dicuss cv’s, problem areas and how to overcome this. Working as a team and helping out your fellow students.
We do also offer Individual Guidance Interviews: ½ hour appointments with a professionally qualified Careers Adviser on weekdays.
Applications & CV checks: are 15 mins long and give you the opportunity to have your completed CV checked by a Careers Advisor.
The more preparation you do the more you will get form your appointment.
'In the previous year the number of applications for each vacancy has surged to 69 while the number of available positions is predicted to fall by nearly 7%'
According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters, the organisation that represents the UK’s big employers, around 70% of the applicants for jobs with their members had upper second or first class degrees. To stand out from the crowd a good degree is essential, but it is not enough.
Graduate Skills / Attributes include – communication, teamworking, leadership, presentations, global awareness.
Students can start to collect points for other passport activities even if they haven't completed the tour or welcome session – this is to cover in case students’ cant get places.
The ‘Welcome to the graduate passport session’ is an overview session is split in 2 parts – Part one provides more details on the packages etc and part two is action planning / objective setting for what the student wants to achieve from their involvement in the passport.
The first reference point for the students should be the website – if they cant get their answer on the site then they need to contact us either by visiting, phoning or emailing us.
