Periodic Table of Elements
I. Procedure
A. Preparation
(Introductory
Activity, Drill,
Review of
Past Lesson,
Motivation)
In your earlier grades, you
segregated objects
according to the materials
they are made of. Have you
ever wondered why the
manufacturer chose the
materials they did for each
item?
How are tin cans made? Are
tin cans metal?
Why are frying pans made
up of metals?
(Tin cans are made of
aluminum or other treated
metals. Frying pans are
made up of metals so heat
transfers very quickly.)
1. The teacher will inspect
the food label/wrapper
being assigned to
students.
2. The teacher will group the
students to sort the
elements and compounds
in the nutrition facts.
List down the elements and
compounds present in the
ingredients of the food label.
What are the vitamins and
minerals you took today? Is it
really important to take all of
them?
1. Checking of
materials as
assigned.
2. Giving of
precautionary
measures and
procedures.
3. Ask the student
the following
questions:
What are the foods that
taste sour? Does that
taste bitter?
Why is soap slippery?
Say: Today let us make
a colorful activity. We
prepare an indicator
solution to determine
the compounds that
taste sour and bitter.
Checking of materials
assigned.
Giving precautionary
measures in testing the
different samples using the
prepared indicator.
What was our activity
yesterday? ( Preparation of
Indicator)
Say: Let us find out if a
given household material is
acidic or basic using the
plant indicator you have
prepared in activity 1.
1. Give the students three
more minutes to scan
their notes before the start
of the exam.
2. Let them prepare one-
3.
4. half lengthwise paper to
serve as their answer
sheets.
5. Remind them to observe
silence and honesty while
taking the test.

materials they are made of.
You did this when you are
starting the habit about
5Rs-recycle, reuse,
recover, repair or reduce.
Look around you. Which
objects are made of
metals? What made you
say that they are metals?
Perhaps, you had been
identifying a metal based
on its appearance. Most of
the time, metals are shiny.
They exhibit a luster which
is the reason that they are
used as decorations. Many
metals are ductile. This
means that metals can be
drawn into wires. An
example is copper. The
ductility of copper makes it
very useful as electrical
wires. Gold is also a metal
that is ductile; however, it
is rarely used as an
electrical wire. What could
Human body contains a
variety of elements and
compounds. The most
common element in our body
are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen
and oxygen. Water (H2O),
which contains hydrogen and
oxygen, is the most common
oxygen compound on earth. It
is very important in home, in
industry, in the laboratory, and
is biologically essential for life.
The human body is made up of
about

of water. Many foods.
Oxygen aids in the metabolism
of food. Oxygen is given to
patient with breathing difficulty.
Other elements or
minerals are needed by our
body. Minerals are substances
that perform vital bodily
functions. Some of the not
important minerals are found in
the table below.

be the reason for this? It is
because gold exhibits
malleability and is known
to be the most malleable
metal. Malleability refers
to the ability of a metal to
be hammered or rolled into
thin sheets without
breaking. Another example
is aluminium. It is passed
into mills and rolled thinly
to produce the aluminium
foil used to wrap food.
Most soda cans are made
of aluminium, too. Some
metals are magnetic. This
means that they are
attracted to a magnet. The
common ones are iron,
nickel and cobalt. Another
property is the electrical
and thermal conductivity.
This property allows
electricity and heat to pass
through a material.
4. Give the correct answer to
the analysis questions.

You might wonder
why some metals do not
have electrical conductivity
values when supposedly
all of them possess such
property. Notice that these
metals are the ones mostly
found at the last rows of
the periodic table.
Elements in those rows are
mostly radioactive. This
means that the element is
very unstable and exists in
a very short period of time.
The general
properties of metals are
luster, ductility,
malleability, conductivity,
and magnetic properties.
Metals exhibit these
properties in varying
degrees.
Nonmetals exhibit
the following properties;
1. Nonmetals are
brittle

Generally metal are found on
the left side of the periodic
table while metals are found
on the right side. The
general properties of metals
are luster, ductility,
malleability, conductivity,
and magnetic properties.
Nonmetals are dull, brittle,
weak and good insulators
The difference between micro
and macro minerals, also called
elements or nutrients, is the
quantity of each needed. Micro
means extremely small, so
microelements are needed in
very small doses. The meaning of
the word macro is very large;
thus, it requires large amounts.
Microelements are also called
trace nutrients, and they are
needed in very small quantities.
Indicators are
compounds that slightly
change their structure
and also their color, in
the presence of acid or
base.
An indicator is a 'dye' that
shows a change in color
when brought in contact
with acids and bases.
This tells us whether the
substance we are testing is
an acid or base with
respect to the change of
color. Acids and bases are
important to many
chemical processes such
as treating factory waste,
baking a delicious cake, or
determining whether a lake
can support aquatic life

You did this when you are starting the habit about 5Rs-recycle, reuse, recover, repair or reduce. Look around you. Which objects are made of metals? What made you say that they are metals? Perhaps, you had been identifying a metal based on its appearance. Most of the time, metals are shiny. They exhibit a luster which is the reason that they are used as decorations. Many metals are ductile. This means that metals can be drawn into wires. An example is copper. The ductility of copper makes it very useful as electrical wires. Gold is also a metal that is ductile; however, it is rarely used as an electrical wire. What could Human body contains a variety of elements and compounds. The most common element in our body are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. Water (H2O), which contains hydrogen and oxygen, is the most common oxygen compound on earth. It is very important in home, in industry, in the laboratory, and is biologically essential for life. The human body is made up of about 2 3 of water. Many foods. Oxygen aids in the metabolism of food. Oxygen is given to patient with breathing difficulty. Other elements or minerals are needed by our body. Minerals are substances that perform vital bodily functions. Some of the not important minerals are found in the table below. 2. • 14. Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region VII-Central Visayas DIVISION OF CEBU PROVINCE be the reason for this? It is because gold exhibits malleability and is known to be the most malleable metal. Malleability refers to the ability of a metal to be hammered or rolled into thin sheets without breaking. Another example is aluminium. It is passed into mills and rolled thinly to produce the aluminium foil used to wrap food. Most soda cans are made of aluminium, too. Some metals are magnetic. This means that they are attracted to a magnet. The common ones are iron, nickel and cobalt. Another property is the electrical and thermal conductivity. This property allows electricity and heat to pass through a material. 4. Give the correct answer to the analysis questions.
  • 15. Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region VII-Central Visayas DIVISION OF CEBU PROVINCE You might wonder why some metals do not have electrical conductivity values when supposedly all of them possess such property. Notice that these metals are the ones mostly found at the last rows of the periodic table. Elements in those rows are mostly radioactive. This means that the element is very unstable and exists in a very short period of time. The general properties of metals are luster, ductility, malleability, conductivity, and magnetic properties. Metals exhibit these properties in varying degrees. Nonmetals exhibit the following properties; 1. Nonmetals are brittle

Generalizati on/ Concept ualizatio n Generally metal are found on the left side of the periodic table while metals are found on the right side. The general properties of metals are luster, ductility, malleability, conductivity, and magnetic properties. Nonmetals are dull, brittle, weak and good insulators The difference between micro and macro minerals, also called elements or nutrients, is the quantity of each needed. Micro means extremely small, so microelements are needed in very small doses. The meaning of the word macro is very large; thus, it requires large amounts. Microelements are also called trace nutrients, and they are needed in very small quantities. Indicators are compounds that slightly change their structure and also their color, in the presence of acid or base. An indicator is a 'dye' that shows a change in color when brought in contact with acids and bases. This tells us whether the substance we are testing is an acid or base with respect to the change of color. Acids and bases are important to many chemical processes such as treating factory waste, baking a delicious cake, or determining whether a lake can support aquatic life 1. - Evaluati on (Assess ment) Let the students complete this table.
