According to a passage from 1 Kings, God told the prophet Elijah to stand on a mountain as God was about to pass by. A great wind tore apart the mountains and rocks, but God was not in the wind. After the wind was an earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake. Following the earthquake was a fire, but God was not in the fire either. Finally, after the fire came a gentle whisper, which is where God was communicating.
