Global warming is caused by increasing levels of carbon dioxide and other air pollutants in the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, trapping heat and warming the planet. The effects of global warming include melting polar ice caps and rising sea levels, new pests and heat waves damaging forests and farms, dying coral reefs and extinction of animal species, and increased allergies and diseases. Some ways to reduce global warming are using energy efficient electronics, solar energy instead of fossil fuels, tree planting, species preservation, and recycling waste.
