Open Access Week was a success with nearly 900 participants from 94 countries, three times more than the previous year. The diversity of participants also increased, with more involvement from academics across many fields. Nobel Prize winner Dr. Harold Varmus spoke in support of open access, saying it enrichs the experience of being a scientist. Events were held around the world and across various mediums to promote open access. While progress has been made, more engagement is still needed within the academic community to advance open access as a new norm in scholarship.
Universities are increasingly using crowdsourcing techniques to engage the public in contributing to academic work. This involves using volunteers' enthusiasm, knowledge, and technology to assist with research projects, participate in online discussions and reviews, and help digitize museum collections. When done effectively, crowdsourcing can benefit both the community participants and volunteers as well as furthering the research and educational goals of the institution.
This document summarizes challenges to food and water security in the Global South, and the potential role of space technologies. Rapid urbanization and population growth are increasing demands on limited water resources and arable land. Climate change is making weather more unpredictable and damaging crops. Remote sensing from satellites can monitor these issues to inform management and planning. Combined with terrestrial sensors, satellites could help detect pollution and validate hydrological models. Space data could also improve farming practices by providing historical, current and predicted climate information. The document recommends space-based solutions be used with terrestrial technologies and policies to strengthen food and water security in developing nations.

This document discusses strategies for developing large, multi-stakeholder science engagement programmes on the natural world. It advocates using convening power to bring together diverse partners around shared interests and objectives. The goals are to inspire sustained public engagement with nature through collective reach, legacy outcomes, and positioning statements supported by empirical evidence. Examples provided include Darwin200 in 2009 and International Year of Biodiversity in 2010, which engaged over 450 partners in 1300 events reaching over 420 million people. Key lessons focus on the need for central coordination, independent monitoring, and addressing changing societal perspectives.
The document discusses public outreach projects conducted by the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Ulberg University. It describes two previous successful projects: the Health and Disease Road Show which engaged 1000 school children in experiments about health and disease, and an event celebrating the work of William Astbury which attracted 30 members of the public through talks and demonstrations. It then outlines future areas of focus, including enhancing undergraduate projects, ethics education in schools, effective research dissemination to the public, and applying for a Wellcome Trust grant.
This is a powerpoint presentation on zebrafish husbandry requirements. It was presented, as part of the assessment procedure, in the 4th International Course on Care & Use of Laboratory Animals (mouse, rat. zebrafish) hosted by the University of Crete, Greece from May 29 to June 9 in 2017.
The theory of eliminative materialism claims that as cognitive science advances, it will show that common concepts of mental states like beliefs do not actually exist. It argues that these concepts are part of a false "folk psychology" theory. However, the passage argues there are flaws in both eliminativism about propositional attitudes and qualia. Specifically, the theory theory underlying eliminativism is flawed, and propositions alone can discredit its position on philosophy of mind. This identification of flaws undermines the central thesis of eliminative materialism.

reforms, and science communication in Egypt. I was a guest speaker in Alnahar TV Channel for discussing Science
Communication. My channel was the first in Egypt, if not the Arab world, to do so. With it's mounting success, a huge wave of
content creators, creating science communication videos, started to unfold, explaining and telling stories from different fields in
science. The channel is liked by people given the Likes to Dislikes ratio of 98.2 to 1.8 (81,000 likes). I have produced 37 videos
which included researching, script writing, shooting, and video editing. The channel has made 2.5 Million Views on YouTube,
1.5 Million Views on Facebook, 180k followers on Facebook and 100k Subscribers on YouTube. And I am currently working

Cofounder and Content Manager, National Science Week, Cairo
Inspired by the British Science Week, and the Australian Science Week, we decided to do an Egyptian
Science Week that carries science inspired events all over Egypt with a Mega Event in the capital.ً We had nine
academic partners including the American University in Cairo, Zewail City, and the National Academy for Science and
Research. There were 100 events in Egypt that included science fairs, science cinemas, books clubs, and writing
competitions. The Mega Event was a success. With over 10,000 applicants, the carrying capacity of Ewart Hall Tahrir
campus allowed only 1,500 visitors through the day. The event included speakers from all the academic spectrum:
2. Physicists, Philosophers, Engineers, Social Scientists, and the host was a movie critic in an effort to promote the
interdisciplinarity of academia.

General Manager, Student Union’s Salons, Cairo
Students rarely get involved with professors’ lives. Usually the student-professor relationship is restricted to
formality, hindering any discussions about the professor’s possible shared interests. We produced four videos that
explored questions like “What was your worst grade?” “What did your parents do when they found out?” . We videoed
them playing games, speaking about their interests, movies and television series. The videos were very successful,
particularly that many of the chosen professors were tough graders. The post reached over 14,000 individuals
organically on the Student Union’s page, more than double the students at university. The whole Professors Don’t Bite
series acquired about 7,000 views. Professors were very happy to have their students come up and discuss their football
affiliations. Students were happy to explore the humane lives of their toughest professors. We also held many events
where professors discussed social topics from an academic perspective such the Psychology of Love, and Orientalism.

Vice President, Cosmos Science Radio, Cairo
The Cosmos science radio was created to instigate interest in the natural sciences. I supervised our biggest
and weekly project, the Cosmos Science Cinema. Every Saturday we would host an award winning documentary, and
invite a professor for discussion of the documentary. One of these events included featuring BBC’s Yom Kippur War
documentary, and a panel to debate whether the Egyptian military actually won the war. The Cosmos Science Cinema
was very successful. We were hosted on television to discuss it even further. We also organized an African alternative
energy conference in April, partnering with the physics department to host over 150 participant from all over Africa.
