Rubies(Watchmaker's Jewels)
An important part of a movement are rubies,
because they are used to decrease the wear of
the movement‘s moving parts.
The ruby is the hardest crystal after the
diamond.
Rubies are in both mechanical and quartz
movements.
A simple quartz movement has 7
jewels/rubies, a highly complicated
mechanical movement up to 40 and more
jewels/rubies.
27. • Highly resistant to wear and tear
• Do not dilate at all
• Remain unaffected by changes
in temperature
• They are non-conductive
• Resistant to acid

Rubies(Watchmaker's Jewels)
Rubies are used because
28. MB mechanical watches = +/- 5s a day
MB quartz movements = +/- 0,5s a day
In the worst case, a mechanical watch
could go 2,5 minutes fast a month (30 days x 5s) .
For a quartz watch
this would mean 15 seconds a month.
As a rule, all watches are adjusted in such a way that they
never go slow, because it is better to be too early at a date then
too late!

Precision Tolerance "Accuracy"
