2. Genital Herpes
 This is an infectious viral disease caused by unprotected sexual
intercourse
 AGENTS-
 Herpes simplex virus- double standard DNA virus
 INCUBATION PERIOD: 3-7 Days

3. Mode of transmission
Transmission of disease through
unprotected sex with an infected
person.
Infection can be transmitted from
mother to baby during delivery.

4. Clinical features
 Pain
 Itching – rashes
 Small sore-Blister-scab.
 Fever
 Headache
 Myalgia-muscle pain
 Enlarged lymph node
 Dysuria
 Malaise

5. Diagnostic test
Physical examination
Pus culture
Viral culture
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

6. Treatment
 Anti viral drugs
 Acylovir
 Famiciclovir
 Valacyclovir
 Symptomatic treatment
 Antipyretics
 analgesics

7. Prevention and control
 Promotion of preventive measures like condom during
unprotected sex.
 Regular screening of sex workers to identify STD.
 Control over unprotected sex.
 Maintain personal hygiene.
 Promote early diagnosis and treatment to control disease
 Provide health education to control STD.
 Explain community about sign and symptoms of disease so that
early detection of disease can be done.
 Proper handling of new born so that infection to new born can
be reduced.
