This document proposes semantically integrating laser and vision for pedestrian detection. The goals are to detect objects using laser and vision, provide a proof-of-concept for pedestrian detection that can be applied to other objects, recover object localization, and perform fusion in a context-aware manner without entirely relying on laser. The proposed method uses laser segmentation, laser-image registration, sensor-driven detectors including an HLSM-FINT ensemble, and semantic fusion through a Markov random field to infer detections and make decisions. Experimental results demonstrate the sensor calibration and detectors.
