Multimodal in rail development: popularity and reaping benefitsAtkins
Dr Ghassan Ziadat, Atkins’ director of planning and infrastructure, looks in depth at transport planning, multimodal transportation and transit oriented developments. Ghassan believes that clear government direction, through policy and legislation, remains essential to ensure the consistent and effective adoption of multimodal transportation and transit orientated developments (TODs) in the Middle East’s major cities.

It is a new concept in town planning, and it may have a highly positive impact on cities and communities. It not only promotes sustainability but also helps increase the health of people and boost the economy. Although it has a lot of advantages, critics argue that this concept is not for all cities and describe its effects as well.
New cities should follow this pattern to build and develop their cities

Tackling Tomorrow's Traffic Challenges Today: Strategies for a Sustainable Fu...ganeshdukare428
Tackling tomorrow's traffic challenges requires proactive strategies that prioritize sustainability, efficiency, and equity. Here are some key strategies for creating a sustainable future in traffic management market :
Invest in Public Transit: Prioritize investments in public transit infrastructure, including expanding service coverage, improving frequency and reliability, and enhancing accessibility for all residents. Public transit provides an environmentally friendly alternative to private vehicle usage and helps reduce congestion on roadways.
Promote Active Transportation: Encourage walking and cycling as viable modes of transportation by investing in infrastructure such as bike lanes, pedestrian pathways, and safe crossing points. Promoting active transportation not only reduces traffic congestion but also promotes public health and reduces carbon emissions.

Future City Fourways brochure
1. Leading companies, professionals and community
champions have combined their resources and exper-
tise to make an application to the City of Johannes-
burg for the implementation of a privately-operated
area upliftment initiative in the greater Fourways area
known as Future City Fourways.
Future City Fourways is a tool to improve the security,
cleanliness and infrastructure on primary traffic routes.
Future City Fourways aims to provide services that will
enhance the potential of economic nodes and busi-
ness precincts in the area through the establishment
and management of an improvement district organi-
sation. It will combat problems being experienced at
the street level including broken sidewalks, dirty
pavements and other issues that impact on human
and environmental health and safety, and the reputa-
tion of the area and the city of Johannesburg.
An area improvement initiative
for the transformation of the
primary traffic corridors in
Fourways into orderly, safe, clean
and infrastructurally sound
public spaces.
FCF team: “We want to upgrade William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road to the standard of Montecasino Boulevard.”
Future City Fourways: A solution to urban decay in Fourways.
Future City Fourways (FCF) is supported by Fidelity Security Group, Montecasino, Auto & General Insurance,
Steyn City, the Lonehill Residents Association, individual professionals and community leaders, and has the
expertise and resources to upgrade Fourways.

2. For a Fourways that we can all enjoy
living, working and playing in,
support the
Future City Fourways area improvement
application to the
City of Johannesburg.
The FCF initiative is grounded on South Africa’s City
Improvement District (CID) Gauteng Provincial
Ordinance No 12 of 1997, which provides successful
applicants with the legislated powers to provide
supplementary and complementary services above
those supplied by government.
FCF’s business model brings together best practices,
innovative approaches, high-tech solutions and
equipped professionals to address the long-standing
problems around urban decay and traffic and by law
enforcement in Fourways.
FCF is based on a novel approach to funding. Although
a Council-approved area upliftment organisation
provides the authority to raise levies on all ratepayers
that fall within the designated areas of improvement,
FCF will avoid additional levies on rates to fund this
initiative. A completely different funding approach to
traditional and, consequently, struggling city improve-
ment district models will be applied, making the FCF
model sustainable and substantially superior to others.
Public participation and support
In line with the requirements of the CID Gauteng
Provincial Ordinance No 12 of 1997, FCF will continue
to enter into public participation processes with the
stakeholders of Fourways, engaging with businesses
and residents through meetings and the media to seek
their support for Future City Fourways.
FCF’s services will not replace those supplied by Council, but will supplement them.
Phase one of the FCF project shall cover William Nicol Drive from Steyn City to the Western By-pass, and
Witkoppen Road from Douglas Drive to Main Road, Lonehill.
