Bob Marley was a famous Jamaican singer and songwriter who used his music to promote messages of love, peace, and social justice. Some of his greatest hits were compiled in the best-selling album "Legend." Marley overcame segregation and racism by writing songs that advocated for unity, equality, and resolving conflicts through peaceful means. The author wrote a song praising Marley for spreading love and hope through his lyrics instead of violence. They believe more people should practice Marley's principles of acceptance, equality, and kindness.

1. Freedom Fighter: Bob Marley
The Freedom Fighter that I have chosen for this assignment was Bob Marley. Bob
Marley was a Jamaican singer, song writer and musician. The greatest hits album, Legend, was
released in 1984, three years after Marley died. It became the best-selling reggae album of all
time. He sold more than 75 million records. Marley, being Jamaican, had to overcome
segregation and, overall, hateful people. However, Marley overcame the hate by writing and
singing music that demonstrated love and world peace. He believed in Sarvodaya, in which all
humans, animals and nature are considered equal. He believed in standing up for what you
believe in in a peaceful manor, but staying mentally strong.

If we all just acted as he always did.
Maybe we all, I say all, could be united and stop the hate.

Everyone has their own personal challenges. I was asked to write about one of mine for
an English project. I sat and wondered for what seemed like hours to find the right challenge to
write about. Finally, I figured out the biggest challenge that I have been facing ever since I was a
young child, which seemed to create most of the other mini-challenges in my life. I feel that I do
not belong. Out of most people that I have met, I am very different. I listen to different music, I
think differently, I act differently, I am different. However, this is a good thing. Have you ever
heard the quote treat others the way you want to be treated? I took this quote very seriously. I
always strive to be kind to everyone, and except everyone for who they are. However, I have

3. realized over the years that many people haven’t taken this quote as seriously as I have. I have
been bullied, harassed, tormented, picked on, and so much more for absolutely no reason. People
mistaken my kindness for weakness. Although I was just recently introduced the word
“sarvodaya”, I feel I have always practiced its meaning. I accept everyone, I believe everyone
and everything should be equal, and I also believe that being kind is always the best way to
resolve problems. My biggest problem in life is that not enough people believe in and practice
sarvodaya. The song that I have written was inspired by people like Bob Marley, who write
about wanting the world that we live in to be better.
Personal Song
Everyone has a dark past, no one is perfect.
Everyone fights their own fights, alone or not, it feels the same.
Every day we spend a portion of time alone on a battle field.
Fighting for what we believe is right, never thinking of
The millions of other battles going on all around you.
The millions of heartbreaks, sorrows, never to be spoken out loud.
But what if for a minute, oh just a minute, we picture the lives at stake.
What if for a second, oh just a second, we realize this one little thing.
There are so many people dealing with problems oh so similar to yours.
Feeling the feelings that you may be feeling, thinking you’re feeling alone.
But what if we all just came together, united as one strong family.

4. We could stop the fighting, stop the hatred, and start to look at life differently.
We don’t need the wars, we don’t need the weapons, we just need to stop
And start working on the way we treat each other.
It’s time to start looking at the bigger picture at hand.
How bout for once we start seeing each other more as people than enemies.
We could recreate this beautiful world using love and peace
And practice the wonderful Sarvodaya.
Can’t we just be happy?
Can’t we just be free?
Can’t we just be one big family?
All you have to do is try.
Oh, just try.
