The 2012 Earth Day cleanup is a chance for YOU to do something for your environment and
                                         Fort Drum.
Please take time on May 17 to help the PW Environmental team and the rest of the Garrison
    clean up your work areas. You can pick up litter around your facilities, turn in those
chemical cleaners that just seem to appear under your sink in your break room, turn in the
ancient electronic equipment collecting dust in your buildings storeroom and recycle those
        old manuals, binders full of reports and other obsolete data from the 1980’s.

WHO- Entire Installation – Division, Garrison, Families
WHAT- Waste Diversion Education and Clean Up Event
WHEN- May 17 from 0700-1500
WHERE- Cantonment and Airfield – Barracks, Buildings, Motor Pools and fence line to
fence line environment
WHY-Current waste diversion rate is 29.7%, Executive order 13514 requires diversion
rate to be 50% by 2015. This clean up day will better the environment, as well as,
provide a platform to educate all Fort Drum personnel about our recycling and proper
turn in procedures for recyclables, e-waste and hazardous waste.
HOW- Soldiers and civilians will clean up areas of responsibility and learn the how,
what, where, and why of recycling, e-waste, and hazardous waste turn in on Fort
Drum.

                EARTH DAY CLEAN UP RULES AND REMINDERS
•   We are only accepting litter collected from the Fort Drum Cantonment area
    and Airfield. No off post generated waste.
•   Please stay out of all construction sites and areas signed with “Off Limits by
    Order of the Commander”.
•   Beware of historic foundations and wells. Fort Drum has more than 500
    historic sites from prior to 1941. If you see artifacts like glass, ceramics and
    metal please do not collect. Only collect the recent litter.
•   Do not remove flagging/tags/signs from trees or stakes.
•   If any ordnance is found, please DO NOT touch and call 772-7153.
•   Turn-in materials at appropriate identified collection points.
•   Please call 911 for any accidents or injuries.
