FAMOUS LINES
14. MORAL
▷The film also comments, and to some extent discards the populist
belief of 'finding one's passion'. The voice-less Forrest is not 'born'
to do anything, does not have valid reasons to take the jobs he
takes. He just does. He puts his total self into whatever he does and
finds success. Maybe passion is unreal. With all deference to
allowing everyone their own opinion about how a film moves them -
and that movies affect people differently - I can say, with relative
certainty, that FORREST GUMP is about love. A love of a son for a
mother - a love for a man for a woman - and (finally) the love of a
father for his boy. No matter what hand you are dealt in life - love
can conquer all. If you've read the book - you will know that the
Academy Award brilliance of Eric Roth's script was ADDING in the
love story of Jenny and Forrest. That's the center of the film - and
the key scene is when she reveals to Forrest that they have a son.
The whole film leads to that reveal. Love. That's what it's all about.
