Formosa is one of the few provinces in Argentina that have native inhabitants. These include the Pilagás, Wichis and Tobas, whose languages are still spoken in the province.
 
They  arrived to the province because  they had  been forced  to  emigrate from the  rainforest in Bolivia and Paraguay.
Formosa is on of the poorest provinces in Argentina and  it's economy is based on cattle and agricultural  activities like cotton and fruit cultivation.
The poverty is increasing
 
Formosa is one of the provinces that has been highly exposed to Dengue feber.
 
There is no cure for dengue and only one way of keeping oneself away from the disease:
