The farmer should not subsidize the urban poor through restrictions on food movement like imports, exports, or internal transportation as this devalues crops and harms farmers, processors, and consumers by creating inconsistent availability. To meet this challenge, India should build large-scale food processing and distribution infrastructure to add value to domestic agriculture and establish national and international brands.
