The first Bible in the Fon language was launched in Benin in February 2014. Rev Daniel Hounzandji, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Benin, presented the new Fon Bible at the celebration, which was attended by representatives from many denominations. The Fon language is spoken by around 1.7 million people in southern Benin and is the main language in that region. Over 5,000 portions of the Book of Ruth were distributed to the 5,700 people who attended the launch celebrations, and around 12,000 copies of the new Fon Bible were distributed on the day of the launch event.
